So my manager has "teams'd" us today asking for suggestions for our works Christmas "bash"

I'm fairly new (as is she!) however I understand that historically (Pre-COVID) it was generally a meal out which is fine

Now she wants to incorporate team building

So far we've had suggestions of escape rooms and hot tub log cabins for whole weekends (We have to pay for this ourselves!!)

I'm currently working on some excuses

Washing my hair
Dying my hair
No childcare

What's the most elaborate excuse people have used, just for a giggle 🤭

A positive lateral flow the day before should do it!

Find an activity you know the majority wouldn't want to do, say you've already booked it and invite them to join you. In reality you could just say you can't afford it, but ime whenever anything remotely different is suggested a few people will initially be keen, but it doesn't take long for the majority to voice the fact they aren't.

The best excuse I ever heard was from a colleague with an impossibly large family with an even more unlikely mortality rate. They couldn't even keep track of which of their multiple parents and armies of grandparents and siblings had already died when they fancied a sick day, let alone wider family. My personal favourite was an excuse for an event months ahead that they wouldn't be able to attend because their gran was going to die that day.

Amongst those teaching in universities, it is reckoned that having a grandchild at university significantly increases your risk of death or terminal illness.

Perhaps the reply for the OP is "My budget will run to joining in with a meal out or similar, but not more." If they want team-building, that should be paid for by the company.

I was amused by the absence letter I received as a teacher: "She will absent next Thursday for a pre-arranged family visit." Pre-what? Before they knew they would have a 12 year old who might be expected to attend school? I don't think Alton Towers sell tickets that far in advance, do they?

I will be unable to attend - my body can't be arsed .

I worked with someone who didn’t come to the Christmas party because he couldn’t bring his dog.

Also know someone who wouldn't come to an event because it was the dog's food time and he wouldn't like his routine disrupting... incredible.

I got hand foot and mouth before my last team building day. No one wanted to question that too far. I told them my bum was covered in tiny spots

My all time favourite was a girl who called in to say she couldn’t come to work as her aunt and uncle had taken over the running of a social club and she needed to help them polish the dance floor
