YouTube isn't a news channel

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 20:34

My partner is anti everything due to the shite he watches on YouTube. If some daft twat is going around annoying police, social workers, nhs staff , filming it and sticking it on a YouTube channel it must be true.
I listen to some of this crap and challenge my partner about it. We argue a lot now which is now making me think the relationship has reach a turning point, would be our 26th anniversary next month.
There seems to be no critical thinking , no researching what these people say , instead people take it as gospel truth.
I work for the nhs. I've been redeployed onto the COVID ward. We have extra security due to the bloody idiots attempting to gain entry into certain places in the hospital.
Apparently I am part of the problem.
Apparently I've been sucked in by the government regarding COVID, that there is an motive regarding the amount of migrants ( refugees) coming over from France, that all police are rapists and murderers, that all social workers are evil.
It's got to a point I can not have an opinion in my own home.

So aibu that YouTube isn't a media source and my partner is just a cockwomble ?

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/08/2021 20:35

yes he's a cockwomble

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/08/2021 20:36

I'd leave. I can put up with different opinions, but a partner treating my area pf expertise as their own? Nope.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 20:37

@vodkaredbullgirl

yes he's a cockwomble
Thought as much

@MrsTerryPratchett

I'd leave. I can put up with different opinions, but a partner treating my area pf expertise as their own? Nope.
I tell him that as adults we can agree to disagree , but I find it disrespectful that he listens to this in front of me especially after I've done a 12 hour shift in ffp3 masks and plastic bloody gowns . He smirked

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/08/2021 20:39

He smirked

How can you stand him?

SisterMonicaJoansHabit · 21/08/2021 20:40

Throw him out. Tell him he can come home if or when he's had some help for that.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 20:43

Does anyone else have this problem?
I'm sure Mumsnet will give me an alibi

TractorAndHeadphones · 21/08/2021 20:43

YouTube isn’t the problem is the conspiracy theory channels he watches.
Why are you still with him ?!???

AlCalavicci · 21/08/2021 20:43

Can you get someone to film something that seems / could be believable and post it on YouTube , (tell your Dp about it or send him a link) , convincing news piece with graphs, footage etc then right at the end ( after a good 10 mins of bumpf ) shout out this was all crap it is a hoax not one bit of what I have said is true .

LilQueenie · 21/08/2021 20:43

YABU plenty people on youtube have great content that is true and official news channels do operate on it. I agree he is probably wrong in a lot of what he is insisting is true but when you look into it there are grains of truth. Most people who watch this stuff don't bother to think for themselves afterwards which is where the problem lies. For example all social workers are evil. No they are not but I can say from experience that a good few in any area are corrupt.

He does need to let you have your opinion though no matter what. He doesn't have to agree to it.

plodalong12 · 21/08/2021 20:49

YANBU because YouTube isn’t a news channel and YANBU for your twat of a partner and him smirking at you after listening to crackpots on YouTube.

But I don’t think mainstream media, particularly print, should be held up as anything more trustworthy and without spin or agenda either.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 20:50

I get what your saying @LilQueenie , but surely I deserve respect as well.

He won't have his jab , but hasn't argued that myself and wider family has. It was funny listening to him been told off by his 84 yr old mum.

I've told him that he needs to look wider at what he's watched/listened to. I can't remember what it was that he was going on about on YouTube, I said it's not true - I can say the sun shines during the day and it's a lie - so quick google came up with lots of info regarding the matter. But I was still twisting it.
I think there's some mh issues but can't be certain and I'm not tarring people with mh issues just because he's a prick

I think we should be concerned by how many people are like him. I watch this stuff for entertainment and to poke holes in their daft stories, but far too many people now think that watching youtube videos is 'research'

You said what I wanted to say in far fewer sentences
OP posts:
LilQueenie · 21/08/2021 20:56

I did say you deserve your opinion and he doesn't have to agree. You 100% deserve respect. However that needs to go both ways. I'm not siding with him but you can't really expect him to respect your opinion if you keep on at him.

Out of interest why won't he take the jab? I'm asking as I have seen many reasons not too and only a few are legitimate concerns from the conspiracy theory side of it.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 21:01

I don't keep on at him. He watches with the volume turned up, I listen and sometimes, not all the time I will give my opinion.
It can be on someone's tone of voice - aggressive - while they shout at police officers
My opinion that yes as you can take photos of building it's does look dodgy if your talking photographs of a police station.

He won't take the jab as
A) it's a way of mass control
B) not enough research and rushed through
C) know someone who knows someone who works at AZ
D) why should I ?

ThinWomansBrain · 21/08/2021 21:02

has he always been a dickhead, or some kind of middle age crisis?
if he's always been like it, I'm amazed you've put up with it this long.

damndorothea · 21/08/2021 21:04

Does he have any redeeming features OP? I truly couldn't stay with someone like that.

DismantledKing · 21/08/2021 21:10

He’s a fuckwit. Get rid.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 21/08/2021 21:11

@ThinWomansBrain not always been like this only since start of COVID and the world crashing

@damndorothea he does actually cook for me when I've done a long day. And washes up . But can be rude and thoughtless with his comments

OP posts:
LilQueenie · 21/08/2021 21:26

sorry I get what you mean. I think the only concern is he feels its been rushed more than other vaccines fair enough. I thought it was going to be that there were chips or morgellins in it or something.

99% of people who know someone don't and never put a name to it either. Go as far as to provide legal documents then yep I'll listen but until then I won't listen to anything else said by them either.

GladAllOver · 21/08/2021 21:39

I don't know how you could put up with someone who is so disrespectful to you personally and to the vital work that you do.
I would have been out of there long ago.

Elieza · 21/08/2021 21:40

Time to get the 🦆 in order OP. :-(

Theunamedcat · 21/08/2021 21:42

Fuck him and leave you will be amazed at how easily he can be replaced by a dishwasher and a slow cooker maybe a pressure king pro or an instant pot if you fancy it

EmoIsntDead · 21/08/2021 21:45

I couldn’t stay with someone this fucking stupid
