To still self isolate

Posting for traffic as super confused right now.
6 lateral flow tests between Thursday and Friday all positive and even though not as dark as test line are definitely visible. I have a cough, no taste or smell at all and felt really ill last week but all negative until Thursday.
Went and got a PCR test Friday and results come back as negative today. Does that mean I can go out as DH says or what?

Since you have symptoms and so many positive lateral flow tests I'd be taking another PCR test to make sure that ones negative

DameFanny · 21/08/2021 20:09

Sounds like a false negative since you have/had covid symptoms. You're best off isolating until 10 days after symptoms started, minimum. If H hasn't had both vaccinations, he needs to isolate too.

Maybe get another PCR too?

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 21/08/2021 20:11

I think you need another pcr. They’re not 100% accurate and from what you describe it sounds like you are likely to be positive.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Amiaeful86 · 21/08/2021 20:13

We are both double vaccinated and I work isn’t he NhS so unsure of what the next step would be as another friend (a&E nurse) has said she has seen negative lateral flow but then positive on PCR but not my way round. I felt really ill last week and seem better today apart from the lingering cough but now DH wants to do his activities tomorrow as I am negative

If DH is double vaccinated he dosnt have to self-isolate now does he? You need to continue to self isolate for 10 days from onset of symptoms i believe.

Awalkintime · 21/08/2021 20:17

If you've had covid they tell you not to take a LF for 3 months after as it can show a positive so sounds like you've had covid recently without symptoms and are still testing positive on the LF.

This happened to someone at work and the NHS contact said the PCR is correct and that she may have recently had it and to go off the PCR result, she was still testing positive on LF a few weeks later so she figured that was the case.

Amiaeful86 · 21/08/2021 20:20

I lateral flow test twice weekly due to being NHS and have no positives at all
Until this Thursday- I did them daily this week as on annual leave and had activities planned and felt
Rough and obviously wouldn’t of gone if positive so put it down to just being on annual leave and body being tired

Darbs76 · 21/08/2021 20:29

No I wouldn’t go out, get another test.

Nobloat21 · 21/08/2021 20:34

I'd do one more pcr and go with that outcome. If I was due in work, I'd leave it to my line manager to decide.

Amiaeful86 · 23/08/2021 17:37

Second PCR done and negative despite stronger lines on lateral flows- I officially give up

To still self isolate

If you had symptoms all last week you shouldnt have been using LF. LF are supposed to be an extra line of protection for fast widespread testing of asymptomatic people, they are not reliable enough for anything else. They are a last ditch effort to pick up silent spreaders.

You are supposed to do a pcr within 5 days of symptoms starting arent you?

Why didn't you get a PCR test when symptoms started? You are NHS I'm surprised you don't know this.

SunbathingDragon · 23/08/2021 17:45

Considering you have some many symptoms, I’d believe the LFT over the PCR but I would also do another PCR.

Amiaeful86 · 23/08/2021 19:39

As I stated I felt ill Tuesday 17th night so got a test that Friday morning so we’ll within 5 days I initially put it down to be run down and finally having annual leave then Thursday night I lost my smell/ taste so had a test the next day at 8.30am. I have to lateral flow test twice a week for my job and got a line Thursday evening hence a test the next day which was negative and was repeated Sunday which was again negative due to negative PCR 119 told me to lateral flow which I did hence all the positives so read before you snipe!
