I have posted on the Coronavirus thread but there is more traffic here.
I tested positive three days ago, double jabbed, symptoms quite mild, sneezing, coughing. Then suddenly yesterday I suffered hearing loss. I can’t hear normal conversation or the radio properly. Sounds I can hear are exaggerated, sort of amplified to a painful degree and really ‘sharp’.
I’m so scared that I have lost my hearing permanently. I can’t find references to this being a typical covid issue. I have suffered glue ear in the past nut this is much worse. Anyone had similar?
I read that sudden hearing liss is a medical emergency but I suppose I can’t be seen because I have Covid. Will contact GP when they open.

It may just be due to general congestion.
No harm in speaking to your GP, though I doubt you'll be seen face to face like you said.

Thank you for responding; I’m panicking I suppose because it doesn’t seem to be a feature of Covid.

I think it might be a symptom if covid? Michael Rosen mentioned this in an article about the effects of covid on him, although he did have a very bad case!
Does your GP not do video calls? At least you could tell them about it, even if they can't examine you.

Could it be wax? I often get hearing loss with a virus. But my ears are quite waxy and tend to block a lot anyway.

Pottedpalm · 20/08/2021 08:12

Thank you; I think I have a mild case overall.

Do they feel full or is it different to that? Whenever I have any virus, even really mildly, my inner ear blocks up for a few days. It’s like a sticky mucus that just has to drain.

I found a 10 min YouTube video of exercises to do that always help mine to drain (I notice a couple of hours after that it’s unblocked)

If it’s not that though it won’t help and I’d see your GP.

What did your GP say?

Pottedpalm · 20/08/2021 17:58

She was very confident that it is covid related and should improve; it actually has improved a little over the course of the day, enough to stop me panicking anyway!

I’m sure it’s just congestion but if it carries on after your isolation I would see an ent specialist promptly, as I understand in rare cases (not covid related) after a virus, it’s possible to have some permanent hearing loss and only a steroid jab very early on can help.
