I know I should be able to choose for myself, but am feeling very uninspired.

My family will be away and I’ll have the place to myself. I’ll probably do the usuals (baths, nice food, take control of remote for once, etc), but am also looking for something a bit more unusual/indulgent. I’m in London if that helps and can’t go away because of the pets. Help me!

Spa day?!

Themadcatparade · 19/08/2021 09:42

Have some friends over for cocktails!

Silversun83 · 19/08/2021 09:46

Paddleboarding?

Magicstars · 19/08/2021 09:49

Art or dance class.
Museums - V&A, Tate, British museum.

When I'm on my own I take the dog for a good walk, get my nails done if they need doing, get some nice supper in, bottle of wine, light the lanterns, close the curtains, sit in pj's and watch whatever I want to in peace

Unexciting but I really enjoy the days to myself

Hoolihan · 19/08/2021 09:55

Go for a really lovely lunch somewhere non-child friendly. Go to the cinema. Exhibition/gallery. Shops - Liberty/Fortnums/Selfridges champagne bar. Read a whole book. Do a long walk - depending on where you are you could go for a daytrip to the Surrey Hills/South Downs. Make yourself delicious breakfasts, really make a ritual of it. Watch a box set. See a show. Sleep!

Shirleyphallus · 19/08/2021 09:56

I’d make the most of the house and get an urban massage at home

SilverTimpani · 19/08/2021 10:05

Massage at home? Lots of therapists have portable tables and will travel to you.

MojoMoon · 19/08/2021 11:08

Museums/galleries/theatre/concert?

It's London. Something excellent will be on somewhere.

Enquirer20 · 19/08/2021 11:20

Gosh thanks everyone, some brilliant ideas here. I love the drink-related ones, especially the champagne bar @Hoolihan!

Paddle boarding is an ace idea - would never have thought of that by myself! Where might I do that in/near London @Silversun83?

Love the ideas for shows too, I’ve had a bit of a look for museums or exhibitions I haven’t seen but bizarrely hadn’t thought of a show. Am also going to investigate spa experiences, I love massages but I’m not sure about a massage in my own home for some reason!

Hoolihan · 19/08/2021 11:28

I had a massage at home earlier this year and also wasn't sold. Always had an ear out for the front door/cats and was surrounded by the crappy detritus of my life 😂 Just couldn't seem to fully relax.

Enquirer20 · 19/08/2021 13:05

This is exactly what I’m thinking @Hoolihan, I think having a massage in my old (untidy!) house wouldn’t help me feel very relaxed and pampered 🤣

Love the ideas from @languagelover96, I can’t play chess but perhaps I could learn this weekend! Also haven’t been to China town in ages, quite fancy that now

Paddleboarding: I've done it at Paddington and the Royal Docks.
Docks water is clean - would recommend there as it's not so rank if you fall in

Do you like swimming? How about going to Hampstead Ladies Pond? It's beautiful.

Enquirer20 · 19/08/2021 20:04

Thank you @MojoMoon, brilliant recommendations and idea!

Im living vicariously through you 😂
I'd be going out shopping to buy some new loungewear, a long browse around waterstones, then brunch with my new book and home with supplies (snacks and drinks) for the evening when I would watch movies and order a takeaway.
