Hotel, usual noise, etc

Endoftether20 · 19/08/2021 00:40

So I've been in York since last week in April, for work. Had a REALLY noisy room for 4 weeks and meals delivered to room. By noisy I mean glass bins emptied at 4am directly opposite, weekly.

All good and copeable. When it opened up, had it both ends, 2am revellers finished and early starts, whether glass, rubbish, delivered stuff. Fine.

Coped with this for another 8 wks. City centre living. All well n good. You expect some disturbing noise.

Well I've now been here last week and this week til Fri. More exams etc. Everywhere is full and noisy and a bit nuts. It's York Races, as I realised today.

A few massive groups went off to the races, came back about 9, and have basically had fun, taken over the bar and two local pubs. Ace.

I'm on the phone to Dad at 9.50, with some of these still milling around, and got screeched at that some fuckers were trying to fucking sleep and selfish fucking bitches were stopping them. Literally just ambient noise, on the terrace, the ambulance going past was louder, as was a group of people heading elsewhere (Monks Bar for anyone who knows)

We all ignored, and ten mins later, same person came out again. Fully dressed btw, complaining (screaming) couldn't sleep and were having cops called as they needed to sleep, we were bitches and cunts, 2 of is sat there, no speaking, nothing.

I appreciate how hard it can be, I am on week 13 for hotel for work, and I don't have a choice for lie in etc, and exams every 2 weeks.

At 9.50pm this seems a bit nuts or do people really expect city centres to be silent?

Can't wait til the last orders folks go past her room....

Reverse?

user1473878824 · 19/08/2021 00:46

Either you’re the woman screaming or you’re so chilled out you’re basically dead.

Endoftether20 · 19/08/2021 00:49

Nope not a reverse. I am the person sat on terrace, watching harpee scream. At 9.50. I and the 4 others on this terrace were bitches cunts and everything else. They were trying to sleep.

I laughed thinking it was a joke. Ten mins later she came out again threatening cops

So as not to drip, 3 of us reported immediately, as her rant was over the front entrance, reception tried to contact them but no answer. The terrace is directly next to Front entrance, Double Tree Hilton, York.

I'm just gobsmacked that people expect silence before 10pm. This is one of the quietest hotels work have put me in since April. It's bliss!

This directly contradicts what you wrote in your OP.

I suspect the former.

For me, it's quiet. No 4am bottle bins. It's not on North St, so no 2am crap, fighting etc. Still noisy as it's a hotel in a tourist city, but very quiet compared to Park Inn, Travelodge etc, just via location. Any city hotel surely has noise? Closer in the worse it can get?

For me, it's still noisy as it's on the main route from the hospital, so ambulances regularly. But I blank them out. It's city living.

As is noise in a public hotel, before 10pm. (Before 12 for me tbh). My AIBU was about screeching and making more noise than anyone there, and moaning at noise before 10pm, in a public area. Sorry, wasn't clear

I would have shouted back that she needs to buy some fucking ear plugs, selfish cunts cannot expect the city to be silent.

UrbanRambler · 19/08/2021 01:32

She sounds unhinged OP. Get some popcorn and enjoy the entertainment.

(That said, sleep deprivation can do funny things to people who are normally quite rational.)

4 weeks in Park Inn, 1 week in Travelodge, 7 more weeks in Park, 1 in Elmbank, 1 night in Travelodge and rest in Doubletree.

Yes I know what hotel living is unfortunately, and also noise.

This week I am in Doubletree and it IS bliss. Best place since I started hotel living, away from my teen, since April.

I'm sorry you disbelieve me, frankly, I don't care. I have had to do this and live this life for a new job.

I've missed my teens breakup with her partner, her going through college applications, GCSE results and more.

I've done it for a future for me and her after I've had YEARS of dead end jobs.

I got through, I've spent 13 weeks away from home training, through cancer scares and more.

I did it and finish Friday. After 13 weeks away from home and months of tests and interviews prior.

No, not the fishwife esque person, nor hairy hands. How sad that it's the first thought of many.

2 did just this. We were all gobsmacked that at before 10, cops were threatened. Mad.

Well done on completing your course OP.
Your DD will be proud of you.
Ignore screaming woman.
She's probably pi**ed.

Wingedharpy · 19/08/2021 01:37

You wouldn't get that sort of behaviour at The Goring.Wink

Endoftether20 · 19/08/2021 01:45

Lol Winged. And Ty. Last 2 exams Thurs n Fri.

I will add that I found out three hours ago the harpy has the room directly opp mine.

I've pass agg written several notices about fish market missing a caller etc and binned them all.

Im being good! Inwardly seething.

And "trying to sleep" in a cocktail dress when pointed out sent said harpy inside. Just annoyed that normal noise was screamed at. 4am bottle banks is normal here but feck me, no good.

Did you actually read my OP about glass bins being emptied at 4am? While for 4 weeks having meals delivered?

By this, I was in a hotel away from home, with Meals delivered to hotel room door. So training, away from home, meals delivered as per lockdown, classroom by day, hotel room and a meal tray by night.

Nothing else. 4am glass bins were our highlights eh? Noisy. Not sure which bit of quiet this week you missed? I woke up twice last night as opposed to 4 or 5 times a night in May due to noise. Hence this is quietest hotel since April.

dancinfeet · 19/08/2021 07:53

Maybe you are more accepting of noise, we stayed 1 overnight in york and the noise was horrific people screaming and yelling at all hours both in and out of the hotel, I didn't sleep a wink, and I have slept at london hotels with trains rattling past a few metres from the hotel at all hours with no problem. York is now somewhere relegated to day trips, not in any hurry to stay there again. Woman screaming at you was very OTT, maybe if you were talking loudly at 2am fair enough, but before 10pm she is being a drama queen.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/08/2021 07:57

I don’t know why you are putting so much emphasis on meals being delivered to your door, what has that got to do with the price if fish?

ClashCityRocker · 19/08/2021 08:29

Oh Monk Bar would have been the quieter end of town anyway last night. She should be thankful she wasn't at the Park Inn or anywhere near mickelgate/rougier Street - would have been carnage out there.

Tonight and Friday will be terrible too.

I mean I agree, City centre hotels are often noisy places at the best of times but race days tend to be another level. A few people chatting on the terrace at that time of night sounds very reasonable, especially for when the races are on (and if she's wearing a cocktail dress, I suspect she may well have been a racegoer herself)

OverByYer · 19/08/2021 08:33

I’m confused. You’re complaining about your noisy hotel. Then complaining about a woman telling everyone to be quiet?

Endoftether20 · 19/08/2021 08:34

Merely to illustrate that I was here when the city was deathly quiet and nowhere open, all the way through to now when everything is open again.

And yes @ClashCityRocker the North St area was a nightmare for noise when I was in Park Inn. I wish I'd been at this end of town all the way through, it's like a graveyard in comparison!

Brimorion · 19/08/2021 08:41

I think people are confused because you spend ages on your OP complaining about the noise you’ve put up with during your lengthy stay so far, though, weirdly, you keep punctuating your complaints about bin emptying and deliveries and 2 am revellers with ‘All good’ and ‘Ace’. Then you seem to be outraged by someone else complaining about noise.

Endoftether20 · 19/08/2021 09:21

@OverByYer

No this hotel is a quiet paradise compared to the ones on the other side of town, that I've experienced, that's the point. If she is pitching a hissy fit at a few people sat on a terrace she is going to have kittens when the racegoers trundle up actually being noisy. And she wasn't telling people, she was screeching like a banshee, being noisier than anyone else. Ironic.
OP posts:
Auntycorruption · 19/08/2021 09:25

I think your OP was confusing as it didn't mention this is not all the same hotel. Either way, people are bat shit everywhere. York is crazy with hen parties and races when it gets going but no worse than Manchester / Liverpool / Leeds in the centre. Why do you need to be so central for work? There are many nicer options a bit further out & can use park & ride etc.
