What are your plans for the Bank Holiday weekend? Should I stay or should I go?

To stay relaxing at home but a bit boring or should go enjoying a break but facing the crowds and expensive tea times/fish and chips, the lack of parking spaces, etc?

In two minds about it! Happy to hear what other people think. Thanks

We're going to brave the beach but we will leave super early to get parked. We always eat early too to avoid queues/take a picnic!

newnortherner111 · 19/08/2021 06:51

Stay at home, find something local to you to visit. If it is within walking distance so much the better.

hashbrownsandwich · 19/08/2021 06:54

We will be staying at home but we are lucky we live near the beach anyway

girlmom21 · 19/08/2021 06:57

I'd go!

Mybalconyiscracking · 19/08/2021 06:57

We’re having a street party, we had a couple last year when they were allowed, someone has decided that another one is a good idea.

Ragwort · 19/08/2021 06:58

We have a long standing rule never to travel on Bank Holidays, but we are lucky enough to live in a very nice part of the country (people come here for their BHs anyway Grin and now I often choose to work on BHs (retail) & enjoy my time off at a quieter time. DH plays golf at his local golf club.

Praying for rain. Too many holiday makers around, so rain would be great and they can stay in the caravan

CeeJay81 · 19/08/2021 07:12

I work in retail, as a previous poster said I prefer to work and be to be off at other times. I'm off this week instead, weather isn't great but off out for the day today. We live in a touristy area not far from beaches, so can go to the beach at other times instead. I'd rather be paid for dealing with the crazy crowds of people. Take away and film for us or something after work.

joystir59 · 19/08/2021 07:14

Working BH Monday as beach will be hideous. Go beach every day 7am to avoid crowds

DrunkenKoala · 19/08/2021 07:22

Do you have something booked? If so I’d probably go, but just get to places early to get parked.

This is my weekend plan. We are away this coming week, getting back on Friday afternoon.
Saturday - unpacking and laundry from our week away and grocery shopping.
Sunday - hosting PIL for BBQ
Monday - relaxing, probably go to local park, might iron DC school uniforms ready for following week.

I should have been at a festival but it was cancelled so my friends and I are going to a holiday lodge (owned by one of my friends). I can't wait, august bank holiday weekend is my one bit of me time each year (usually at the festival) and I was worried I wouldn't get it this year. I love the summer holidays but I literally organise and sort EVERYTHING and it's fairly full on with the kids etc. Unfortunately it means my kids won't get to do anything bank holiday weekend as DH is shit at organising anything but that's the same every year 🤷

Do you already have plans that you are reconsidering or are you just making plans now?

actiongirl1978 · 19/08/2021 07:31

I loathe August Bank Holiday. Stay. On the few occasions we've been away with DC it's either heatwave or raining. No one but me will voluntarily wear suncream so that's the heatwave out and the rain means you end up in the car in a traffic jam.

We are staying at home. If the sun comes out, it's a bbq with a couple of bottles of really good Rose wine and lots of reading.

Sillysop92 · 19/08/2021 07:47

Staying at home and relaxing as the new term starts a couple of days later. Will walk the dog and have a takeout.

SimonJT · 19/08/2021 07:51

Luckily neither us work on Fridays, so we’re going away buy travelling on the Thursday morning, so hopefully the roads won’t be too bad.

We’re staying in Yorkshire with a friend for a few days, on the Thursday were doing the jurassic farm at Spilmans.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 19/08/2021 07:55

I always avoid going on days out on Bank Holidays.

My plan involves dog walks, exercise class, bell ringing, non dog walk with friends, gardening, reading.

somewhereovertherain · 19/08/2021 07:56

Hopefully selling lots to visitors.

Upsidedownworld21 · 19/08/2021 10:30

I think we are going to stay! I don't have the energy anyway to face streets and beaches full of tourists. We didn't have anything already booked and prices are crazyyy! No way :(

To be honest sometimes I genuinely want to do something nice particularly for my daughter, but many other times I feel the pressure from friends all travelling to cottages, hotels and spending loads of money in activities, food, drinks, shopping crafts and lovely stuff in the destination but again is all overpriced. And I feel so behind...but I will stay and make the most of the garden and the quietness of it all here when everyone else is away.

I'm off to Antigua!

rothbury · 19/08/2021 10:53

I am lucky enough to live less than ten minutes walk from the beach so there is NO WAY I would go there BH weekend Grin

Stay home, order in nice food, watch a good film. Just chill out.
