Just booked a Holiday without DH!

Hah.

Some of you may remember a previous thread of mine about going on holiday without DH, DS and DSC.

I was apparently totally unreasonable as it wasn't personal money but family money and if we couldn't afford abroad as a family then it was selfish to go alone.

Well, I've managed to up my income. We are going to have a family holiday in August next year, either UK or a Eurocamp in France. And, I've just booked myself a 3 night break in Greece for June that'll be paying for out of my own personal money!

Disclaimer: I asked DH if he wanted to join me using his own personal money. He declined but is quite happy for me to go solo. Everybody wins! Very scared of travelling alone but so excited. Grin

Now just have to hope next year isn't spoiled by Covid!

My husband and kids go abroad three times a year without me (as I can’t get time off work) and it’s not a problem at all.

He also goes away once a year on his own too. And again, it really isn’t a problem.

Our attitude to life is:

Time together as a family.
Time together as a couple.
Time alone.

All three are very important to us to keep us sane Grin

Wonderful op!

I couldn't care less what anybody says about "family" money. I carry this bloody family and do all the Christmas, holiday, shopping, birthdays etc and a majority of the rest of it too. I need a break occasionally and so I'm off to Riga to the markets in December. Tomorrow I'm off to Greece with my ds while my OH and older ds stay at home with the dogs :)

Enjoy your trip!

I have 2 x 1 week holiday every year with my friends, always have, always will.
We always had a family holidays ( adults now) but that is precious me time.

I had a whole week away on my own, a couple of years ago. It was absolutely great, loved every peaceful minute :)

Ahh! Fab. Thanks all. Very excited but a little nervous having never done it by myself!

I remember your thread. That's great. Are you going to be able to take the stepkids with you on the Eurocamp / UK holiday? I've done both with kids of that age and it works well.

Greece isn't my bag but I do enjoy a solo mini break so I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Can you tell us what kind of holiday it is? Organised group travel? Solo?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 18/08/2021 23:31

Sorry pressed send too soon.
Well done, I want to be brave like you!

MirandaMarple · 19/08/2021 07:31

I've just had 3 days camping with no phone etc, just three books and our dog. Was bliss.

It was a TUI package holiday. Solo. They offered a £200 discount for Solo travellers or 1 adult travelling with 1 Child. So, it's covered my flights, the hotel and breakfast and dinner. I'm also going to book an Excursion, which is a day cruise with swim stops for £38. Although, I'm now getting cold feet about travelling alone and feeling a bit sad that I've no one to go with!

Well done, I've frequently holidayed alone or just with my DC, all our money is 'joint' and for many years I was a SAHM but would still take holidays without my DH. I do work now but earn much, much less than DH but he would never comment on my holiday plans .... as I wouldn't comment on his. Enjoy your holiday !

Don't! You will enjoy it. I am trying to make my mum take the plunge and go on a break by herself. Shee keeps saying no why would she be by herslef, so then I point out that it's better to be by herself in Nuremberg than sitting in her flat😂

Good on you!

I've been doing solo city breaks for years now, it's wonderful. 3 days of seeing everything I want to see.
