Was your alterations on your dress finished? And how many fittings did you have?

Four weeks beforehand I had a final fitting and seamstress finished the alterations a week later.

Three try ons altogether

singtanana · 18/08/2021 14:28

Same, a month before but then lost weight (unintentionally…oh the days of being in your 20s!) so my skirt trailed the ground…

herewegoagainst · 18/08/2021 14:35

I had a consultation about 3 months before so she could have a look at the dress and get an idea of what needed altering and give me a price. Then alterations and final fitting about 3/4 weeks beforehand. Which was good because I put on a bit of weight between the two appointments!

HirplesWithHaggis · 18/08/2021 14:41

I borrowed my sister's dress and wasn't allowed to alter it. We were pretty much the same size but I needed to find size three, four-inch white stilettos because she's a little taller. Quite easy in 1984. Grin

mindutopia · 18/08/2021 14:47

I only had one fitting and then I assume I must have tried it on after the alterations were made. This was done probably 4 months before my wedding, but only because I was moving countries 3 months before (to where dh and I were going to live and also get married). So it was my last possible opportunity.

Bells3032 · 18/08/2021 14:48

final fitting a week before...picked up 2 days before

Chasingsquirrels · 18/08/2021 14:52

1st: brought it off the peg from a wedding dress shop in Cairns Easter 1998, my mum took it back to UK and I tried it on when I came back in Aug 1998 3 days before the wedding - fitted fine.

2nd: DH spotted the dress I then chose, a Jaques Vert shift dress. I tried on 2 sizes, decided on the best one and brought it online about a month before.

ProfSprout · 18/08/2021 14:53

A week before but I still lost another 1/2 stone in that week (completely unintentionally - how I wish it were that easy now!) so on the day it was a bit big.

isthisareverse · 18/08/2021 14:59

3 fittings, last one was a week before the wedding

JhsLs · 18/08/2021 15:30

Final fitting was 3 weeks before

fellrunner85 · 18/08/2021 15:36

Bought a dress around 2 weeks before, and it fitted fine. No alterations or further fittings.

happymummy12345 · 18/08/2021 15:39

5 days before.

We had a 3 month engagement and planned the wedding within 2 months. Wedding day was mid April. I went dress shopping as soon as the date was set, so around the middle of February was when I got my dress.

I had 3 fittings. My 1st fitting was mid March, my 2nd was the end of March, and my final fitting was 5 days before the wedding.

I was pregnant when I got married and wanted to keep the zip back on my dress as I don't like corset dresses at all. My alterations were done by the in house seamstress at the local independent bridal boutique I got my dress from. Dress was a ball gown with zip back. So the final fitting had to be as close to the day as possible so it would still fit.

CharlieB93 · 18/08/2021 16:39

Thanks all! That’s reassured me - picking dress up three days before the wedding and I’m worried it won’t be right

LBOCS2 · 18/08/2021 16:40

The day before. It snowed, my dress was stuck somewhere in the north, it was very stressful.

Should have been done about five days beforehand, I think!

KatherineOfGaunt · 18/08/2021 16:48

I had three fittings. So many layers of net underneath and I'm quite short! The last one was a week before, I think.

CharlieB93 · 18/08/2021 17:09

I’m just worried because I’ve had 6 fittings and each time the dress was too bit/then too small

OP posts:
CharlieB93 · 18/08/2021 17:09

And I’ve not gained or lost weight

OP posts:
HungryHippo11 · 18/08/2021 17:13

Three fittings IIRC

I do remember being a bridesmaid where we just had one "fitting" where they took the measurements and that was it. The dresses were a poor fit and really badly made to be honest.

LadyPoison · 18/08/2021 17:25

I'm so glad I've been married for ever! I'd have no patience with multiple fittings.

Mine was off the peg from Fenwick and fitted perfectly fine.
