To ask why water repair men would be fiddling in my drains at midnight 3 nights on the trot

Tonight at midnight, for the third night on the tort a utility sub-contractor has been doing something to the drains/meter/both at the end of my drive

Nothing from United Utilities to say that there's a fault. I can't go out and ask them as I have COVID and don't want to shout from the window.

I will call them in the morning but wise people of MN, tell me, what on Earth could it be?!

Rats?

Gas work? Randomly when water pipes, both sewage and fresh, are done in my area the gas people come out as well.

Rats?

Please not rats 😩

Depends if its water or sewerage.
Listening for leaks on the water mains. There's less background noise at night and a listening rod with one end on the ground and the other end against the ear is still the best way to trace leaks that haven't made it to the surface
Clearing a blocked sewer is the other possibility.

The wrong sort of water. Grin

Everyone has rats living near them.

Personally I'm always worried about a someone's pet snake coming up the toilet so I keep the seat down and hope my neighbours don't.

jessycake · 18/08/2021 08:03

They do it then because its quieter , fewer people are flushing , or draining sinks /baths etc

SameToo · 18/08/2021 08:07

I used to work with one of the main water companies. As said above they do it because there’s less traffic, less people using facilities and less faff in general.

GleamingHeels · 18/08/2021 08:11

I had a letter yesterday from my water company to say that they would be cleaning the pipes between 22:00 and 06:00 Monday to Thursday over four weeks. According to the letter working overnight will "minimise any inconvenience to me"

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/08/2021 08:15

They often do work at night. If they have to cut off the water it inconveniences fewer people. You usually get a letter warning you about it.

Oh, I thought this was sort of euphemism! Blush

I know someone who doesn't use the downstairs toilets at night by fear of snake, or rats popping up Shock
