To find these situations a bit uncomfortable and irritating

I went for a drink with my partner, his friend and the friend’s girlfriend. I had never met the girlfriend, only met the friend twice. Without wanting to sound rude, I find them a little pretentious. I’m sure they’re good people, we’re just different.

I met the girlfriend and she said nice to meet you, but that was it. I asked her about herself, where are you from, what do you do etc. And she replied but didn’t ask me a thing about myself or speak to me really.

She mainly addressed my partner when she spoke, telling anecdotes, and maybe glanced at me occasionally but I felt that she didn’t engage directly in any conversation with me.

I tried to join in with theirs but it’s fair to say we are very different personality types, which is fine, and I’m definitely quieter.

I ended up making an excuse that I had to go early to get some stuff ready for work as it was just uncomfortable. I thought it was polite to talk to new people you meet and try and be friendly.
