Aibu to chase a job application up?

I applied for a job which had the application deadline of 1.5 weeks ago. I've not heard anything back and the online portal says my application is in progress. I'm feeling a bit anxious over it now and continually checking my emails.

AIBU to be thinking about chasing it up with an email to the contact on the application, letting them know I'm very interested and asking if shortlisting has taken place yet?

Do you think id have heard by now if I was getting an interview?

Disclaimer - been out of the workplace for a few years and feeling vulnerable :(

What have you got to lose if your chase-up is polite and friendly and keen as opposed to aggressive or emotional?

It's been taking around two weeks for my DD to get interviews. There's no harm in chasing it up by Email.

I'd position it as when should I expect to hear so you're not hassling them to make a decision. if they say another 2 weeks or whatever you'll know. Chances are they're struggling with holidays to get shortlisting done

To be honest, I wouldn't chase up an application just yet. Post interview, yes, but not at application stage.

Some jobs can have 50+ applications or the people sifting may be on holiday, off sick or just really busy. A week isn't really a long time to wait.

I think you need to focus on managing your anxiety in applying for jobs, as it shouldn't be making you feel this way. You need to be able to perform in interviews, so maybe try and focus your energies on interview preparation. You can't control whether you get shortlisted or if and when you hear back, but you control how you perform at interview.

Good luck.

I don’t think 1.5 weeks is very long in August - you could have someone doing the sift off for a week, then coming back to a big workload, and then the HR person who schedules the interviews being off.

I’d give it another week. But I’ve waited a lot longer to hear about interviews, too.

Thank you everyone! I'm starting to apply after years out and I'm really excited/keen/anxious to get back some balance.

Obviously a bit too keen!

Will wait another week and chase (kindly) if not heard back by then. I hadn't really considered the fact it's Summer holiday season x

2 weeks after the application closing date is not very long at all, especially during holiday periods etc.

TBH I wouldn't start to think about chasing it for at least another 2 weeks yet.
