Fortune Teller AIBU

Went on a weekend away with my sister and my daughter and while wandering through a Sunday market, we came across a gypsy (her description) lady offering to tell our fortunes - so we decided to do it!

She was uncannily accurate about several things - ie a family member who is causing lots of trouble with a shitty attitude, aspects of our characters that she couldn't have known, various work situations etc and at the end she invited us to ask her a question.

My question was 'will I move house?' as we've been trying for a while and have had no luck and are about to take our house off the market and stay put. We're all fed up with having lots of viewings but no proper offers, and it's incredibly time-consuming and frustrating when we fall in love with a dream house - only to lose it again!

She was absolutely unequivocal and said 'yes - you will move house and it will happen very soon.' She said - 'do not reduce your asking price' (something we'd been considering doing) and said a few other things that were spot on.

So my AIBU question is - should we stay on the market based on the predictions of a gypsy fortune teller - and I'd love to know how many of you have had your fortunes told - and how much of it - however random - did come true!

I'd love to know how she sleeps in her bed at night.

a family member who is causing lots of trouble with a shitty attitude,

That describes 99% of families.

But you might as well trust a fortune teller as an Estate Agent :)

girlmom21 · 17/08/2021 09:56

You showed her your whole hand by asking that question. Chat to your estate agent and see what they think. She's just earning a living by making educated guesses about people's lives.

I did a load of readings here, I have no psychic ability, but was so generic, every one who asked found themselves in there. (I tried to make them all positive, and encouraging)

If you’re undecided then deciding this way, which is essentially the same as flipping a coin, is really as good as any.

Out of interest, why would you place any stock in a fortune teller telling you things you already know about yourself, like various work situations, issues with relatives, and your personalities? Why is being told a bundle of things that you already know the sign of a good medium? What use is it? If I went to a fortune teller then I’d expect to hear things I didn’t already know, like where my missing driving license is, or whether or not my sister-in-law has forgotten the immense overshare I made whilst drunk the Christmas before last.

'will I move house?' as we've been trying for a while and have had no luck and are about to take our house off the market and stay put.

mmm, I would say yes you will, but not in the immediate future, I'm feeling around christmas, or just after. You probably want to change the curtains in the living room, they make it look small

Eggfriedpower · 17/08/2021 10:04

Don't make a huge life decision based on a so-called fortune teller.

entropynow · 17/08/2021 10:05

Charlatans, every one. Honestly, use your brain; don't rely on some superstitious nonsense.

Lockheart · 17/08/2021 10:12

Dont be daft OP. Do what's best for you practically, don't hamstring yourself based on some con artist.

katemuff · 17/08/2021 10:16

Read James Randi's work and if you can watch his amazing Storyville documentary. Psychic ability does not exist.

iheartredsquirrels · 17/08/2021 10:19

I've had years of experience reading tarot cards for myself and read for family if they ask. It has never occured to me to actually read for, let alone charge randoms.

Staryflight445 · 17/08/2021 10:22

I honestly wish there was laws surrounding stuff like this. They pray on the vulnerable, look at how popular crystals and ‘manifesting’ is lately, these people will crumble and fall at some point when their wants and needs don’t come true.

Do what feels best for you op, fortune teller was just for fun, an educated guess.

KrisAkabusi · 17/08/2021 10:22

Should you follow the advice of a con artist? NO!

Mantlemoose · 17/08/2021 10:25

This is where people like this make their money, but taking peoples problems and telling them what they want to hear. Re the house:
Will I move house translates as I'm desperate to move but it isn't happening. Don't reduce the price - well you're hardly going to increase it are you.
In this market if your house isn't selling there's an issue with it which is most likely price.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/08/2021 10:31

Missed opportunity there, you should have asked what the winning numbers for the Euro lottery were going to be. Wink

lineeyesneeded · 17/08/2021 10:31

Maybe the fortune teller is going to buy your house???

Hopdathelf · 17/08/2021 10:46

She definitely knew one aspect of your character…gullibility. Sorry if that sounds rude but this woman has a such psychic ability as my toaster and significantly fewer morals.

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 17/08/2021 12:50

Ever heard of a Barnum statement @blessedday That’s exactly what’s she’s doing. If you say something like ‘new doors are opening for you’ then this can be read literally any way you want.
House move, new job, relationship break up, new relationship. It’s so easy to get people like this.
