Has anyone ever seen their pulse in their nail bed?

Without compressing the nail?

I think I've had Covid in the last six weeks, and my nails are now coming away from the nail bed and I have a few splinter haemorrhages. It feels like my nails are too tight all the time. Today I've noticed that parts of the nail bed are permanently blanched in a horizontal strip in some nails and in others I can see the whole bed blanching and flushing with my pulse. Not with any pressure exerted on the nail. Just with my hand at rest! It's subtle but noticeable when you look at it. Like a constant flicker of changing colour.

I'm freaked out! Dr Google diagnoses disaster, Armageddon, etc, but I've been told that Covid nails are a thing and they're a sign that some vascular damage has happened. I'm scared, honestly.

Anyone know what this is? Anyone experienced this?

Is it like this? (Not my video)

I've had covid, but never experienced this. I wouldn't worry, it does sound like it's made you quite anxious (I have GAD and worry about health issues a lot myself), so it is definitely worth a GP visit for reassurance at least, in my opinion. If something is wrong, they can take appropriate action to fix it, and if not you'll be able to stop worrying about it. Smile

No idea. I had a nail come away from side of nail. Took 6 months to grow out... and pretty sure it must be related.

Have you rung dr/sent a video in etc?

Yes and had covid back in Feb!

[/quote] Yes, it's this, in every nail! I can't usually see it, they're also all coming away, my white nail tip extends down the nail in a really ragged pattern and the lunula at the bottom has a red half moon shape sitting over it.

I searched for “quincke’s pulse” as per the video title but apart from a few vague references that look American, can’t find a thing about it based in UK and definitely not on the NHS. But some YouTube comments on the video mentioned aortic insufficinency/regurgitation and a search for that does show that some signs can show up in the fingernails. I would see GP ASAP straight away, to be on the safe side. I don’t normally do Dr Google for the reasons in your OP, but googling that it does sound quite serious and I would rather scare you now than brush it off as nothing to worry about and read an AIBU in X months/year time about a very ill poster and it all started with fingernails. Hope everything is ok. If your body is a traitor like mine and decides to work perfectly fine when you get to the doctors so you can’t really show them what you’re talking about, show them that video and also see if they could look up the aortic thing and if they agree.

I've called the doctor, they've requested photo and video. I'd prefer to be seen so they can take my blood pressure etc
