Leaving "safe" job I don't enjoy to take up temporary job

I am currently freelancing 2 days a week for an old employer. I left after 9 years because I was so bored with the job (no progression) and fed up with colleague (v small business) and boss. I left and took another job for around a year. I then had a life changing bereavement which meant I had to give up the other job. It has given me something to do, but I don't enjoy it.

I have an interview tomorrow for an interesting looking job but it is literally only for maternity leave and is advertised as "until the end of the year".

I am not good with change and am someone who sticks at things for far longer than I should do.

But I don't like where I am now, so life is too short to be unhappy, right?

I definitely don't think you should rule it out because of a short contract but you also need to think about your long term plan/goals. Would you be able to return to the freelancing after the contract ends? What would you actually like to do?

I left a permanent job that i had good opportunities in but no longer enjoyed in order to take a short contract in a job related to my degree. I only ended up staying for 6 out of the 12 months but that was because i got another permanent position elsewhere so it did me well!

Can you speak to them and see. It’s really short. By time you are hired - references etc will be only 3 months.
Is there possibly a longer term job?
It might be they can only advertise it as that but know maternity is 99% likely to not return etc.
