Shamelessly posting in aibu as my printer packed up last night (very old inkjet all in one) and I am just going out to get a new one now.

Needed for study (MA and hopefully PhD) and also kids at college. Do I get inkjet or spend more for a laser printer? Does get used a lot! Thank you!

YABU....inkjet
YANBU.....laser

If its for mostly text and you don't need colour then B&W laser all the way. The starter cartridge it comes with will be good for a few hundred pages and you can get cheap compatible ones when it runs out.

Inkjet is a total rip off. They waste most of the ink every time you switch them on.

I bought the tiniest laser I could find, cost about £80 in 2008. Last time I brought a replacement ink cartridge it cost £8.68 and is claimed to be good for 2000 pages.

I would never buy an inkjet again.

No experience with colour lasers.

Replacement toner cartridge, I should have written.

Laser fan here too

Thanks all! Yeah think I'll spend the extra and get the laser. It's more than I wanted to spend but I need a good one. Thank you!

Try printerland. You can usually get what you want at a cheaper price.

Initial outlay is bigger but if you are printing a lot, you will get the savings pretty quickly
