To be annoyed I've got to wait for money back

I placed an online order 8 days ago with a retail shop. The order didn't go through yet the money was taken (over £100) and I've been told I need to be patient for my money to be returned.

AIBU? I've mailed via Twitter and bank are rubbish too.

Has it actually been taken? I bet it’s an authority code holding the money but it hadn’t been (and won’t be) debited. It’s up to your bank how long they ring fence it for, most do it for 7 days in case the money is then collected. It’s a bit like when you pay in a cheque where it shows in your total but isn’t part of your available funds.

Yes money left my account. M*zo basically said if I haven't heard back by 19th fuckingDecember they will escalate.

I'm lucky that I'm not desperate for the cash like but annoyed that they are dragging their heels.

Trustpilot review. Too many businesses give crap service and the one thing they care about is poor google and trust pilot reviews because that trike costs them future business. Make sure you put up a review.

I have a Monzo bank account and I absolutely hate this. It's the only bad feature, I've sadly never managed to get them to escalate the refund.

Essentially what it is, is that if you paid for something but it remained pending with the retailer and they never approved/completed the payment, your money is effectively in a no-man's land. So there's no 'reject' button the retailer presses, it just automatically goes back into your account after a few weeks if the 'approve' button isn't pressed at their end.

19th December seems very far away though! I've only ever had it be 3 weeks

I only use the card with pots etc to save. I wouldn't switch accounts for a gold clock. If you want to pay money in you to pay so much per ££.

That will teach me to buy from DP.
I placed another order that needs returning too 🤯

From my previous experience as a retailer I found that delays were down to clearing systems and schedules and banks which were totally out of the retailer's control. We processed refunds immediately but funds could take up to 10 working days to reach a customer.

ryanbloodyair · 12/08/2021 23:59

It's frustrating when they can take money but not refund in a timely way.

I got charged twice by mistake in Nando's. They couldn't refund in the restaurant. I had to write my details down, the manager had to email head office to ask the accounts department to transfer the money to me, and I had to wait 2 weeks for them to deposit the money back into my account! Absolutely ridiculous! It was about £50, some people would not be able to have an extra £50 disappear for a couple of weeks.

finished31 · 13/08/2021 00:03

It's shocking really how retailers differ. M&S are amazing and the money is back in your account the next day after items returned.

I agree, some people just can't afford to wait.

If you don't wash dry and iron all of your bedding at least once a week, and if you don't wear clean ironed pyjamas every night then you're a dirty scuzzy revolting tramp.

gardeninggirl68 · 13/08/2021 00:07

It's the bank holding the money not the retailer

Ghost payment. Depends on your bank how fast it's back in your account

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 13/08/2021 00:08

@ryanbloodyair I now want to know which thread you were trying to post on, you scuzzy mare Wink

ryanbloodyair · 13/08/2021 00:11

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop 😆😆😆 the newbie person thread on AIBU 😁

nordica · 13/08/2021 00:15

It's nothing to do with the retailer and entirely depends on the banking systems. I work for an online retailer and the refund is processed from our end immediately and there is then nothing we can do to make it get to the customer any quicker. Please don't leave a Trustpilot review for something like this as a pp suggests, it's entirely out of the company's control if they have issued the refund.

If you use a credit card, you don't get this problem, makes life much easier.
