I'm at a folk-dance class with a friend. It's the fourth class we've attended. My friend is getting the hang of the steps, but I'm still struggling. Others also find bits tricky, but I'm by far the worst. I think Covid has made it trickier because there's no holding hands, so you don't get pulled along in the rhythm and have the closeness of bodies turning in the correct direction to guide you.
I've had enough of being so stand-out wrong tonight and I'm sitting out the rest of the dances - but if anyone asks why I'm giving the excuse that my feet hurt, because I know that if I say I feel utterly embarrassed to be so crap at it they will just try to reassure me that I'm fine. But I'm not.
So here is my AIBU:
AIBU to wish people could respect a person's discomfort and not feel obliged to try and pretend it's unwarranted?
