Gone off summer

For context, I live abroad and love, or did love, sun and heat. Not sure if it’s since having my toddler, but just want summer to be over. The days are too hot to do anything, there are cars everywhere, with crazy drivers, and people everywhere. No spaces at the normal cafes we’d normally just stroll into, restaurants booked up for weeks, nowhere to park on my own street as everyone has come to stay in their holiday homes. We have to go to do the food shop at 8.30, otherwise we can’t park and it’s jam packed.
Really feel excited about autumn, fresh morning, rain, baking, putting the fire on…when it used to fill me with dread 🙈
Anyone else gone off summer? Is it having a child that makes a difference? For example, less nights out, less solo sunbathing (or any sunbathing!) cocktails by the pool and swims.

Can't go off summer when it only lasts three days!

@tintodeverano2 🤣Ohhh but I miss U.K. summertime

I’m so over summer. I’m an autumn/winter gal. Can’t wait for jumpers, scarves, coats, boots, cold air, crunchy leaves, dark nights 😊 oooh it’s making me feel all snuggly and nice just thinking about it!

Manchildlookatthestateyourein · 12/08/2021 21:46

@bleachblondemom Yes! I used to sort of dread it, now I’m craving it, just the calmness too and less people 🤣

No. I love summer and it hardly lasts five minutes.

Snuggly, cosy and dark nights can fuck off to the far side of fuck.

I much prefer autumn. I like the summer because we have fun days out, but once we’ve done what we want to do I’m over it.

Oh I wish it could be summer all year.
Maybe throw in a bit of rain over night and a short cold snap over Christmas so we can get the log fires burning. But 90% summer would be lovely. At least 20C and preferably nearer 25C.
(PS. I know this won't be a popular viewpoint!)

I'm with you - without the cold snap.

I dislike the heat too, prefer winter minus dark mornings and rain.

bleachblondemom · 12/08/2021 22:51

I’m weird I love the dark mornings and evenings 😂 must have been a vampire in another life

bert3400 · 12/08/2021 23:00

Hi OP, I'm the same, live in a Spanish tourist resort. It's so busy with every nationality and we are having a heat wave this weekend but I have just got back from UK yesterday and it rained 50% of the time . So much rain, we couldn't do anything - neither is preferable. I'm looking forward to September, still warm but all the tourists have gone back - we can resume are bike rides, our dog walks (too hot atm) and getting into our favourite restaurants. I know I would rather be here as 10 months it's glorious.

Delatron · 12/08/2021 23:01

I’d like warmth (23 plus) from May until September. A bit of rain overnight from time to time for the gardens.
But then at least you could plan things! A garden party (without a back up rain plan), camping may be bearable. You could holiday in the U.K. and swim in the sea and eat outside. Yes I basically want to live abroad.

I will confer that in this country super hot days aren’t pleasant as we don’t have the air con.

If you love dark, dreary days and rain endlessly for months then yes you’re in the right country. Jan/Feb is particularly bleak. I very much struggle with the lack of light and warm. I just want to hibernate. I don’t want to snuggle under a blanket I want to be out and about doing things when the evenings are light. I hate it when it gets dark at 4...

I'm waiting for summer to kick in properly. Apart from a few days heatwave before school broke up and a few ok days here and there the weather has been awful again. Days and days of grey and rain. So much rain. My guttering has been overwhelmed. Low temperatures to the extent that I needed a coat on just over a week ago. And I've noticed it starting to get dark earlier too now Sad. Warmer weather is better for my health and energy, means I can be free of horrible constricting layers of clothing (winter stuff always looks and feels frumpy too), better for DS2's asthma and the kids always sleep so much better because they can get out and play, far fewer bedtime issues. Autumn and winter are just a damp, miserable drag (scraping ice off the car in the dark before the school run vs lovely warm daylight and just jumping in anyone?) and can do one as far as I'm concerned.
