Driving test tomorrow - last minute tips for nerves

NotSure1542 · 12/08/2021 15:54

I have a driving test in the morning tomorrow and I created a similar thread about how I’ve struggled to learn to drive and failed my test so many times. I am dreading it and feel so close to cancelling it as I’m so nervous (I definitely won’t though).

I bought a new car for when I pass which I love driving (under the supervision of my husband, of course). I have been driving everyday this week and my instructor said that the only thing that could let me down tomorrow is my nerves as my drive today was perfect.

Please share your driving test stories and any tips! Thanks.

I was the most anxious learner and driver(still am lol). Only passed 2 yrs ago myself. See previous posts from me :)
I basically necked a bottle of rescue remedy. Had a banana. Minimal caffeine.
I was nervous on the day(particularly about manoeuvres) but It was a cancellation so less time to stress than normal.
Test went ok nothing too challenging on the day. Familarish route(live in busy area)
It was about 11am.
Dreading the manoeuvre bit and I was asked to do a reverse bay park at the test centre! I'd never been in the car park there till that day. Thought, fuck, this is it. Iui ts all over

I passed with hardly any minors.

I watched quite a few YouTube videos for driving anxiety before my test, also doused myself in lavender. I passed at 39.

I would go with trying calming / breathing techniques.

Best of luck OP

Oh OP. I was in your shoes a few years ago. What calmed me down was breathing exercises and thinking about what I’d do if I passed my test. Good luck Flowers

Hairbrush123 · 12/08/2021 16:15

I also passed on my fifth attempt

WhatHaveIFound · 12/08/2021 16:20

Rescue remedy pastllles and a banana worked for my DD on her 4th test. She's failed the first 3 down to sheer nerves.

Fkrkrodps · 12/08/2021 16:22

This will sound strange, but I finally passed when I decided that I will drive how I see fit and that I didn’t care what the examiner thought. Obviously my version of driving how I saw fit complied with the law! I think this attitude gave me the confidence I needed.

Good luck!

Rescue remedy spray is wonderful. Good luck!

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 12/08/2021 16:35

Rescue Remedy helped me so so much. I used it on my last two lessons before my test and my instructor noticed a huge difference. Good luck!

Dixiechickonhols · 12/08/2021 16:39

Good luck. Wear something you feel confident in. Lavender spray or something similar. Deep breaths. Don’t put pressure on self if you pass you pass if not life goes on.
I passed 3rd time. I was really nervous for reverse around corner and examiner was really kind and said something like just take your time.

NotSure1542 · 12/08/2021 16:55

Thanks all. Just popped into the shop and bought some Rescue Remedy. I’m hoping that bus journey I just took will be the last one I take for a while Cake.

Rescue remedy fan here too, but don't neck a bottle before the test. It is an alcohol solution, so you don't want to drunk drive for the examiner! I found a few drops very helpful though.

Kitdeluca1 · 12/08/2021 19:07

I passed first time with the mind set of; not many people pass first time so if I don’t pass I don’t pass, at least I can learn from it. No pressure at all, just do the best you can. The more chewed up you get the more you tend to cock up. I know it’s easier said than done but really try not to put pressure on your self. Good luck OP!

So I passed! I am in utter shock still. I felt like I’ve had worse driving tests but I only got one minor.

I actually started to cry when he told me he passed and my instructor thought I failed until I showed him my pass certificate. It honestly all feels so surreal. What a great way to start my weekend. Thank you all for your support. To those struggling - you’ll get there!

Congratulations OP. It’s such an amazing feeling, isn’t it? I can remember the day I passed my test so clearly and I’m still not over the fact I passed my test despite it being years and years ago Blush. Enjoy your freedom and stay safe!
