Should I apply?

I am temping part time in an office in the housing sector over the summer till the schools reopen as I have just qualified as TA. A full time position has come up and my colleague wants me to apply. The thing is it is a 35 minute drive and is 19 miles to get to. The annual leave is quite low at 20 days. I wouldn't mind doing the job but don't know if the commute will make me tired over the week and if I should get something closer. I still have doubts working in schools at the moment due to the uncertainty with the winter period.

35 minutes isn’t too bad at all. Most of my commutes have been at least that and it didn’t bother me really. I’d go for it. You can always keep a look out for something more local in the future. At least this way you have something for now.

TheSnootiestFox · 12/08/2021 10:17

Its hardly a big commute, but if you don't want the job then you don't want the job! Leave it for someone who has a bit more enthusiasm maybe?

putthebinsout · 12/08/2021 10:46

35 minutes isn't a commute! I think you'll be really limiting yourself if you'll only go for jobs closer than that

45-60 minutes fairly standard amongst those I know. Anything less would be considered a massive plus

Oliveandsage · 12/08/2021 10:48

I think 60 minutes commute is fairly standard - so 35 minutes commute seems good to me! But it doesn't sound like you want the job - so I wouldn't take it on that grounds.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 12/08/2021 11:10

Seriously? 35mins is too much for you? Unless you're working 15hr days I very much doubt that very short commute would make you tired Confused

Lockheart · 12/08/2021 11:11

Do what you want OP, MN can't make this decision for you.

RoomOfRequirement · 12/08/2021 11:12

Where are you that 60mins is a standard commute?! I don't know anyone who would drive a 2 hour round trip every day to work.

spooney21 · 12/08/2021 11:13

Do you want/need to with term time only? I would imagine the annual salary in both would be quite different?

Hankunamatata · 12/08/2021 11:15

I hate commuting so it would be a no for me.

Bluntness100 · 12/08/2021 11:20

Thirty five mins is a minor commute. Sounds like you’re just not up for thr job so be honest and say so
