I've only just started watching (not a huge TV fan). Does anyone else find it heart wrenching? Impossible to watch? I don't get emotional about TV shows. I actually feel sick watching it. I can't even explain it. I feel like I need to stop watching as I always feel really down after. Anyone else feel like this with handmaids tale (or any other TV show)?? I can't stop watching but also want to turn it off!!!

@SachaStark2

That’s a good point to remember about Atwood: she’s always been adamant when discussing this book in interviews that there is NOTHING in this story that hasn’t already happened in our world.
There's a great article somewhere that actually names the places that the story aspects are based on. I'll try and find it

No I can't watch it.

Nrtft but you may find it harrowing, because its a real story. A bit of artistic licence, but the book and the series are real and its very close to the bone.

It might nit be happening in your neighbourhood, bit it is happening somewhere in the world.

Seem to have had trouble with my 'o's' there haha.

I found this final series particularly harrowing truth be known, but I needed to see the 'baddies' get their comeuppance.

Even though the baddies did not see their ideology as cruel and a total trampling of women's rights.

The knowledge that all of the horrors are real and not made up. Coupled with the supporters group on Sunday I found particularly bleak and have been a bit down for a couple of days. Whatever horror people makee up.with in the name of a pretend god someone would be cheering them on. Unfortunately very true, there will always be supporters no matter how twisted, evil and corrupt your ideology.

The supporters got me too. I was literally open mouthed. Woken there going yes, this is great, rape them all and take away any power we have!! And it's awful because you know its true. I mean you know they WOULD be there, it isnt just men trying to hurt women's rights. Women will gladly take away another woman's rights. "Rape my sister and my daughter and my friend but not me, I'm on your side. I'll go be an Aunty and make sure they all behave"
