To be worried about this?

Sounds ridiculous but I ended up looking after my neighbours kids today after a family emergency.
Their stove was different to mine and I got asked to cook some pasta for the kids. I am now worried I didn't turn it off properly. There was no flame or heat coming off when I checked as I left their home but is there still a possibility that I did?

Can you call them and ask them to check?

SquirtleSquad · 10/08/2021 21:38

You're better off asking them to check than asking strangers on the internet to speculate

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 10/08/2021 21:38

Message them amd ask?

girlmom21 · 10/08/2021 21:39

Of course there's a chance. Just ask them.

LadyLolaRuben · 10/08/2021 21:40

If you checked and there was no flame or heat, surely its off. I wouldn't worry

RichTeaShite · 10/08/2021 21:41

How on earth can anyone on here tell you if you turned it off or not? Daft

MiaMarshmallows · 10/08/2021 21:44

I cooked for them at about 12PM and went back to check the kitchen about 4 hours later as I was worried . There was no noise, smell or flame but because it's so unfamiliar to mine (mine is an older style) I just wondered if it was technically possible to leave it on without realising.

Are they in? Go round.

Youmightrabbityoumight · 10/08/2021 21:49

I would imagine they would have noticed if the stove had been on for 9hrs?.

MiaMarshmallows · 10/08/2021 21:53

I did put my hand over it, no smell, all looked to be off and this was hours after cooking.
I think I will send a text and tell them I am worried however.

So you've already checked, and it's off, cold, no smells, all good, and you're still going to message them to check it's off?

intheheights · 10/08/2021 21:57

You need to check with them or you will keep worrying about it. Sometimes things like that worry me and you won't rest until you know for sure. Although I can almost guarantee it's all fine if you've checked and no heat is coming out and no smells.

Miniestelle · 10/08/2021 21:57

You either did or you didn't. Confused

Lulu1919 · 10/08/2021 22:01

Just message them ..but if you had left it in they will prob have noticed by now anyway .

But you won't rest until you know so do it....x

Doona · 10/08/2021 22:03

If you checked 4 hours later and there's no heat then it's definitely off. Don't worry.

MiaMarshmallows · 10/08/2021 22:04

I've read posts on Google which say that people have left them on without realising as there was no smell or flame.
I have texted them now.

If it looks off, smells off, and feels off, then it’s off. Step away from google.

monkeyadja · 10/08/2021 22:20

Hello Mia

I have ocd and this is exactly the sort of thing that would cause me significant worry - ie being responsible for some disaster caused by not turning the gas off properly.

Just wondered if you often worry about things like this, or whether it’s a one off just because you used a new stove?

Hope it gets sorted, well done for helping out in an emergency x

Phoenix76 · 10/08/2021 22:26

I’m not attempting arm chair diagnosis here but sounds to me like op suffers from anxiety (either knowingly or not) as you have all demonstrated the reaction wouldn’t occur to non sufferers. Completely besides the point op, but if you’ve noticed this kind of fretting creeping in to your every day life it’s time to speak with your gp, no shame in it, I’ve had the same and your post reminds me of how it started with me. Either way, hope it’s all sorted.

Summernamechange2021 · 10/08/2021 22:35

I have done this before and left the hob on overnight on low heat Blush . Its electric and when the heat is low, there is no light like there is when its on high heat. I realised when I walked near the cooker and cool feel the heat. But if you ran your hand over it and didnt feel the heat, I think you turned it off.

LeonoraFlorence · 10/08/2021 22:38

Do you mean have you left the gas on? No harm checking by messaging them.
Could this be OCD though? Only you know how often you’re worrying about such things.
