To be a bit proud of myself?

Yes I know it's very pathetic. I've been struggling with my mental health for a few months and the garden which was my happy place is now an absolute state, brambles, nettles weeds everywhere the grass has grown all over the lovely slates that were there. I've tried to sort it out but a day here and there isn't enough and it feels too overwhelming

So I've hired a man and he's going to landscape the garden, fix the fence, put more slates down, de weed the garden, pressure wash the patio and re edge the lawn and more importantly he's going to come and maintain it so it never gets this bad again :)

YANBU. That's a terrific positive action, well done.

Brilliant. Good plan!

SquirryTheSquirrel · 09/08/2021 19:54

Well done. That will be a real weight off your mind.

PostmanSplat · 09/08/2021 19:56

Well done!!!

You've taken positive action to get your space back!!

Have you agreed a price though? I'd hate for someone to take advantage of you!

OP I hope it helps you and you get your gardening soul back. I'm looking forward to the pics and hope this helps you deal with your problems.
Fingers crossed 🤞🏆

Well done! I love the garden but can't do much this year - I'm pregnant and in pain and there's just too much going on. It's been instructive to say I'm doing a, b and c, and then bringing in a local gardener to help with the rest. The sky hasn't fallen in and the garden looks good.

Get a few gardening books from the library to browse through so you can decide the look and types of plants you ultimately want to achieve. It will be a lovely place to sit once finished. Enjoy and well done.

Winenota · 10/08/2021 07:03

That’s brilliant!
Can I ask how you mentally got there? I’m struggling to get stuff done on the house, don’t know who to trust to actually do it or what to pay, they come up with such different quotes and quite a few talk rubbish.
Dh has left it to me and I’m frozen in fear!

Oilyoilyoilgob · 10/08/2021 07:09

Yay well done! The library or online sellers are great for books for garden inspiration!
Ox-eye daisies are good hardy perennials along with penstemon, scabiosa, verbena boriensis and erysium Bowles mauve, salvias, lavenders too ☺️

It’s such a big step to admit you need help (I’ve been there!) but the relief you feel will be wonderful. Once it’s done you’ll probably find your happy to have time pottering and weeding as it’s not such a big task facing you. Our handyman who helps us out is a godsend-he does the ‘big’ jobs which leaves me mentally prepared for the ‘small’ jobs in the garden.

Enjoy getting your garden back and keep us posted about your plants 💚

Flobbertybillop · 10/08/2021 07:21

It’s not pathetic, be kind to yourself. It’s a great idea, good for you!

chocolatemademefat · 11/08/2021 01:46

Having the work done can only make you feel better still. My husband passed away this year and I got someone to help with the garden and not having the worry of how I’d be able to do it myself made me feel so much better.
I hope they do a great job and you get back to enjoying your happy place.

MessedOfTimes · 11/08/2021 02:45

This is wonderful! And will be a gift that keeps on giving! I finally rearranged some furniture this week to accommodate a television I saved up for months ago. I felt proud of myself for that! What a lovely thread. You’ve actually made my day. Cheers to us all. Enjoy! X

I don't know how it got away from me so fast, but the main thing is it's being sorted. And he's going to maintain it for me
