Vaping and Smoke Alarms

So staying in a hotel for the evening and all the signs say not to smoke or vape as both will set off the fire alarm.

Now I'm not a smoker or vaper, but a friend of mine is and I've known him to vape in hotels saying its fine as it can't trigger smoke alarms....is he right?

Ive never had a problem.

I have known it to happen to someone once in a small room, directly vaping under it though.

It depends I thinks - there's different types of fire alarms - some work on smoke, some on heat etc. In my old work someone vaped in the bathroom and set off the fire alarm. So whichever type of fire alarm that was it detected the vape and set it off!

I've never had a problem, but mine is a relatively small set up. If you have one of those monster vapes then I could imagine it setting an alarm off.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/08/2021 20:55

Vaping can set of smoke detectors but its a lot less likely than smoking as there just isn't the same particle generation, its just when you use the vape instead of constantly while the cigarette burns.

Depends on the type of alarm I guess. When we stay at PGL the kids are warned to take roll on deodorant only and alarms are frequently set off by older kids/adults hair straighteners

I’ve vaped in hundreds of hotels and never set an alarm off.

My vape doesn’t kick out too much vapour though. If it’s one of those stars in their eyes ones “tonight Matthew, I’m going to be…Cher” then there may be a problem.

As long as
You’re not directly under the alarm, it’s fine.

Currently reading this thread in a premier inn and vaping. Never set an alarm off!

As above though it's not one of those "big cloud" set ups.

Whattodoffs · 08/08/2021 21:15

Wow, I messaged him saying he shouldn't do it as he could get in a whole world of trouble if he set off the smoke alarm and he was so blasé about it.

I genuinely had no idea whether they could or not.
Judging by the clouds coming off some vapes I'm surprised to not see a whole other weather system being invented, not to mention the sickly sweet smell

@jmscp fairplay to you. I'd be too scared if I did vape, knowing my luck I'd be the one who set off the fire alarm lol

My vape sets of my mum's smoke alarm, I'm staying there at the moment & am only allowed to vape in my room. I only have to forget to close my door if I nip to the loo & the smoke alarm goes off, I have an air purifier, a fan with a filter & the window open all the time.
