My life, such as it is is on my mobile. Gave in and ran update, which took forever. Oops, my data has now been hacked. Being completely non-techy I don’t know what to do. What have they given out to hackers? How do I find out? I’ve got banking and HMRC stuff on here.

I’ve had my password leaked before (most noticibly in the big MN hack several years ago). I just changed the password. Nothing bad happened.

What the others said. If you are worried then go to the site of the particular companies and change your password there.
Use different passwords for each site, but particularly anything that has your financial details and a different password for email.

If you get an email or a text stating that you’ve been hacked do not click on the link. Go through the main site to see what has happened if anything.

I don't think you have got banking stuff on there unless you have actually downloaded documents and saved them. Banking and HMRC stuff happens on their secure server not on your phone.

I really think if you are going to use tech then you must learn to use it. You don't need to be any kind of expert but you need to know the basics...at the moment you are like someone who owns a car and doesn't know how to put oil or petrol in it.
