To buy a renewed/refurbished Ipad?

My Ipad Air is now nearly 8 years old. It still basically works, but the battery life is crap - about an hour from fully charged - and no longer accepts updates so some apps no longer work. I notice you can get renewed/refurbished ones on Amazon for half the price of a new one. Has anyone bought one and were you pleased with it?

We get all of our tech (iPhones and iPads) from Music Magpie, all are refurbished. It’s worth comparing with Amazon etc?

Following this thread for same reason

We have had two. Bought them for our children as half the price of buying new and they do the job perfectly well. We have had no complaints. I think we bought them refurbished from Apple and they came with an Apple guarantee...

I just bought a refurbished iPhone from Music Magpie. Really impressed - phone is like new (you can select from a range of conditions - I picked 'very good) and it arrived very quickly. They even included a charging cable and that little pin to get into the SIM bit.

I'd definitely go back there if I was looking for an iPad.

I buy all my phones/tablets refurbished from Music Magpie too, no problems at all.

SkyeIsPink · 08/08/2021 17:12

My sister got a refurbished iPad Pro a couple of years ago and has had no issues with it :)

Sgtmajormummy · 08/08/2021 18:50

I got 2 refurbished iPhones a year ago (for me and as DD’s first phone) and have had zero problems.
No way would I buy the latest iPhone.
But Iuse IPads for work and would buy that new. My current one is 3yo and works fine.

Hankunamatata · 08/08/2021 18:55

I brought refurb from apple website.

Amima · 08/08/2021 18:58

The newer you buy them, the longer you can use them before they’re obsolete. By which I mean developers don’t produce apps for it any more so even though it still works you’re unable to use it and it basically becomes a doorstop. You might pay more for a new one but you’ll get about ten years out of it. A refurbished one is already a few years out of date.

Music Magpie also offer warranties op.

We have had a few phones from them and they have been perfect. However, the last phone I bought I wasn’t happy with the battery capacity and they refunded it with no problem.

I also get all my tech refurbed from Music Magpie. I had one iphone bought from them which wouldn't worked and they immediately replaced it with any quibble.

Kithic · 08/08/2021 19:08

Is this an advert for music magpie?

Snooks1971 · 08/08/2021 19:13

@GrrRightBackAtYou you’ve reminded me, we’ve have 3 youngish teens and have bought iPads/iPhones from Music Magpie during the last few years. All been really good, boxed, like new. One year guarantee.

My second to last iPhone, it had a less than perfect battery life like yours, and yes they swapped it immediately no problem. I’ve never gone for their “pristine” option either, usually “very good”.

OP it depends what suits you…. We prefer a lower cost item and then get a cheap SIM plan from GiffGaff. I used to HATE being tied into a 2 year contract! (With a phone) and happy to have a model that isn’t the latest one.

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 08/08/2021 19:13

I wouldn't trust the third party marketplace sellers on Amazon necessarily. If you can afford it I'd get refurbed direct from Apple.
