How much for a Day 2 test?!??

I'm living in France and haven't seen my family for two years, so have jumped at the chance to visit for a few days.

I have booked the flights and thought the day 2 test would be a slight nuisance but nothing more (especially as I'm likely to already be back in France when the results come through) but I'm just trying to book one now and they all cost about £70!!

Does anyone know if there is a cheaper way to test please? Or if anyone knows of any test centres around Derby? Thanks very much

The .gov website has a list of providers. You can do a self test from home and there are some in my area for £20, I imagine after tax/postage it will be more like £30 though.

Continentalmama · 07/08/2021 18:56

actually I've just clicked through some of the links and rather then the £20 on the .gov site they're coming out £70 plus. Sorry! Insane prices that.

Randox. £5 off with BA code (dont need to be flying BA) - cost me £43
Need to google the test and the code as no longer on randox homepage.

Best I could find yesterday was £75 with Boots. There are loads of providers in the list claiming to charge £20ish but when you actually visit the websites they’re actually charging £70+.

Everything genetic ltd are doing a rapid home test for £30. Ill try upload a screen shot. It says it's pre departure but if you click on more info it also explains it's fine for the day 2. Hope that helps, I'm in the same boat currently looking for next week.

Randox. store.randox.com/product/covid-19-day-2-test/

BA code. BritishAirways43

You drop it in a marked box, ours was at a nearby service station

Randox - they took a couple of days to arrive so order a bit in advance

Thanks everyone, I'll look up your suggestions.

It's really bloody irritating having to pay that much for a test which is essentially useless - by the time I've posted it back and they've analysed it I'll already be back in France!

£28 medical experts probably add p&p in though

The whole thing is a fucking joke. A relative has mandatory tests at work every 48 hours and their day 2 test corresponded with a work test. They thought that they would just get that done, but no. NHS tests aren't reliable enough apparently. So they paid for a test that didn't actually arrive until day 4 and results didn't come through for 3 more days. They had 2 negative results through work by then. The whole thing is just a money grab. Nothing more.
