I was 20 and life was so, so easy compared to now. Just had such a sense of having plenty of time, and that the future was going to be great. I was at uni and loved my course, the people I met etc. It seems like yesterday in one way, can't believe it's so long ago.

What was your life like in 2005?

I was mid-20s and that's the year DH and I got together, and moved into our first flat together. We were living in London and working hard but otherwise pretty carefree, partying all the time and having loads of weekends away.

TrickorTreacle · 07/08/2021 02:00

@TinkleTongs

Full of clubbing , parties and friends
2005 was a stable year for me with tonnes of clubbing and socialising like you said. Was also hunting for my dream house, although I didn't get it until 2006 in the end and that was a great year too.

I remember the internet being freer as well with 2005/6 being at the tail end. The cancer that is social media (Facebook etc) started cropping up around 2007. SM comes with mass surveillance, politics, a wokery minefield, with the corporate and government superpowers behind them clamping down on the free internet with an Orwellian agenda. Still, we have forums e.g. Mumsnet which which pre-date SM but otherwise the internet is now just a shell of its former self.

Was living in Ireland and my boys were 1 and 3. They were so sweet. I’d give a year of my life to have one weekend with them at that age again, sitting on my lap for a cuddle and chattering away in their lovely fluting voices.

Bbq1 · 07/08/2021 02:08

A wonderful year as our beautiful son was born after 4 years of try.

TartanBonnet · 07/08/2021 02:48

Was 40 had just had my second child after a twenty year gap!!!

2021isnottheyear · 07/08/2021 02:49

I was 15 and pregnant. At the time it wasn’t great but now couldn’t be more thankful for the giant 6ft size 11 smelt foot teenager I clean up for every day 🤣

NotAnybodyReally · 07/08/2021 03:08

A mess. A total disaster. Still in the grips of trauma from my childhood. Drowning in debt. Trying to put myself through University while also having to work full time, and dealing with volatile boyfriend who was a mess. Constantly broke, very depressed and often at risk of losing housing. Often electricity cutting off, often hungry.

I was less wrinkly then and had less sparkly hair but would not go back for anything!

@Inastatus

Amazing, I’d just become a mum after trying for a long time and I loved it.
Me too. I’m just about to drag her out of bed for a run!
thevelvetcurtain · 07/08/2021 03:26

Awful. I was 7. My mum had moved us from a travellers site to the city for the first time and I went from feeling so free and living with my friends and running around wild all the time to having to go to school every day and wear shoes outside. I went to school before that but very irregularly and I was badly bullied. The bullying got worse at the new school because the city kids didn't know what to do with the scruffy traveller kid Sad

Luckily things are much better these days! I did move out of the city as an adult though Grin

junipoor · 07/08/2021 03:29

I was 6! Life was very good indeed Grin

I remember the Christmas of 2005. I said to my Nan 'isn't this crazy nanny, almost 2006 already?!' I remember that conversation so well

Mintjulia · 07/08/2021 03:41

Pre-dc. International job, well paid, lots of travel and partying. I was still looking for a life partner. I did much less exercise than now.

funinthesun19 · 07/08/2021 03:47

I was 15.
I was very happy and was really enjoying life.
2005 is a year I always look back on as being one of the best. I wish I could go back and re live it all again.

Myshitisreal · 07/08/2021 03:53

I was beat the absolute shit out of at a party. Diagnosis/es the following year and my health has just got progressively worse since. It all stems from that party. 💔

Myshitisreal · 07/08/2021 03:54

@Hm2020 💕

Wantingtomove123 · 07/08/2021 03:55

This day in 2005… I had just got married 2 weeks ago and moved countries a month ago after giving up work. Would be turning 25 in a week.
Now…. Aged nearly 41…. I’m moving back to England in 2 weeks with dh and dd(13). Can’t wait!

Greygreenblue · 07/08/2021 04:20

I was 21 and living on the other side of the world travelling and working in pubs. It was both the best and worst year of my life.

DelphiniumTea · 07/08/2021 04:33

Was right in the middle of struggling to care for my disabled daughter with no help
She's now in supported living so life is easier for me. In a way.

TonkinLenkicks · 07/08/2021 05:14

I was 19 and I was a holiday rep. Best year of my life.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 07/08/2021 05:32

My Dad had his first heart attack and my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.
We sold DH house and bought this house together.

Busy old year!

StaceysmomandIhavegotitgoinon · 07/08/2021 06:25

2005 I was still happily married, double income no kid yuppies so mortgage and holidays/nights out were our thing. Life was great actually but it all fell apart a few years later. Good memories though.

Letsbekindplease · 07/08/2021 06:28

I was 18 in 2005. Having just left school to go to college to do a course I absolutely hated. No idea what to do with my life work wise. Partying every so he Thursday, Friday Sat night. Mostly house party’s at friends. Camping weekends with friends. Single and not remotely interested in guys. Just interested in going out with friends and coming home to tea and toast. Best times

Effinell · 07/08/2021 06:31

I was 24, I had a 4 year old and a new born baby and I was working evenings.

Bellend101 · 07/08/2021 06:31

I was also 20 and at uni. In September 2005 I started my year abroad teaching English in Tenerife. It was a fantastic year and it definitely still feels like it was just yesterday.

TabithaTiger · 07/08/2021 06:39

I turned 30 in 2005. My life had just started to get better after separating from ex DP (kids Dad). I'd moved into a new rented house, kids were 6 and 4, and I'd started to make new friends through the school and nursery. I had just started seeing someone new and was beginning to enjoy life again.

garlictwist · 07/08/2021 06:40

Amazing. I was 25, living in Paris and working just off the Champs Elysées as an assistant to a lawyer. Think I peaked then. It's all been downhill since.
