FFS I've booked cloud 9 glamping

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/08/2021 16:29

The glamping I've booked is in loads of news papers as being a bit of a shit hole www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/19493253.cloud-nine-glamping-apologise-state-wimborne-site/

I've been flat out with work since Covid began and DH could only book a small window off work ( he's in a wedding band so lots a rebookings) found cloud nine it had availability for 5 why did we have that extra kid it always makes booking holidays hard

I saw it thought lots to keep the kids entertained plus something a little different, yes it was more than I wanted to pay at £700 but we've got some inheritance coming so thought I'd treat us and it would be worth it for the kids happy entertained faces.

Spoke to my credit card company I have to go and if it's not as advertised they will refund.

So my AIBU
AIBU to pack three kids into a car and drive 3 hours knowing that we will probably need to come all the way back?

AIBU to take a chance it will be okay?

I’d still go. Sounds like they’re trying to iron out the issues.

ShitShop · 06/08/2021 16:32

Try not to worry. The kids will have an adventure either way and it will be whatever you make of it. Try to go in with a positive attitude for their sake and make your mind up when you get there

Newnames123 · 06/08/2021 16:33

Camping is always a bit shit. But kids will likely love it.

Article says on site shop is rubbish so take stuff with you.

I would go. At least you know you can get refund if it is awful.

OaxacaChihuahua · 06/08/2021 16:33

It has some positive reviews so I would go for it and see how you get on. Even if it’s awful, you have a reasonable chance of getting your money back from your credit card company.

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/08/2021 16:47

Okay so far positive vibes from everyone I could kick myself for falling for it.

Still I've been on a cheap holiday were you collected the coupons in The Sun, Pointins Brean Sands and that was terrible with a capital T, I actually phoned the local fire safety officer as they were wedging chair legs into the fire exit doors to keep them closed but we still had a good time.

Yes I hate the unpacking and packing of the tent whilst my youngest runs fucking wild trying to kill himself at every opportunity

So I thought this would save us that stress.
I even bought some giant marshmallows the other day 🙄 for family bounding around the fire pit I was kidding myself with that the youngest will probably burn himself and they will all bicker who has the biggest marshmallow

Glamping? Its camping,!

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 06/08/2021 17:16

The latest on their Facebook page suggests they’re putting extra on from this weekend but it looked really crap from those who’ve already been.

Lucia574 · 06/08/2021 17:18

I saw an article by someone who’d really like it yesterday! Think it was in the i

Lucia574 · 06/08/2021 17:19

Yes, it was in inews.co.uk

LuxOlente · 06/08/2021 17:36

You could make an amusing Instagram out of it. It's the summer version of "Winter Blunderland!" featuring a cardboard reindeer, a pitbull whose owner insists is a husky, and a rainy carpark with a single 10-bulb strand of fairy lights.

SomeSix · 06/08/2021 17:37

It has an Ambassador programme where people can get money off their holiday by generating bookings from friends and acquaintances. Seems a bit MLM and not to mention embarrassing if the newspaper reports are to be believed.

Our holidays lately have been a bit like that don't even get me started on our trip to Sardinia to go to our niece's christening were DH was supposed to be god parent except DB "forgot" to tell us not at the actual church in Sardinia 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

DB raved about Sardinia his wife is Sardinian only problem is where her family is from isn't the nice tourist part that's the North of the Island everything nice is in the North not 2 hours away in the south

I'm sure my eldest teen could do lots of sulky faces for Instagram.

Next holiday after this one has to be amazing otherwise that's it 😂

We went last year and really enjoyed it. All 3 kids (14, 9 and 3) loved it and that is unheard of. We didn't book this year as they've hiked the prices up.

I hope they haven't ballsed it up

Taliskerskye · 06/08/2021 18:54

@SomeSix
OMG
that’s scary

Heronwatcher · 06/08/2021 18:56

You’ll be fine, it will be fun. I think the main issue was people expecting a 5 star hotel with a canvas roof, but most of it looked ok to me, and if you get a proper bed and don’t have to erect a tent it can’t be all that bad!

motherrunner · 06/08/2021 19:01

We love camping (albeit we only pay £50 for a pitch for a few nights). Kids will adore it. Mine just roam around. Take loads of outdoor toys. We have a camping box of toys - water pistols, skipping ropes, bubbles, cones, football, face paints. Threads for friendship bracelets - and they just roam free. They will make friends within an hour and we just chill with the wireless speaker.

Yes the proper bed, if there is a proper bed and they haven't made that up will be great.

Glad some had a good time that's reassuring maybe I can become their ambassador and get a retrospective discount!

Although the annoying examples here would completely put me off and reminds me to much of I don't know what but it grates and makes me eye roll 🙄

OMG!

Pages 11 and 12 of the Ambassador Handbook have finished me off.

OP, was this sold to you my a friend who said the holiday would be curated for you??? Over ‘tea and biccies’?

I would know something was up if my friends sent me an e mail beginning ‘hey beauts!’.

However…. It does sound like the kind of set up kids and younger teens would like. Kind of CenterParcs meets a festival.

Enjoy it, beauts!

Panickingpavlova · 06/08/2021 19:10

Op I have nearly fell for it, the blurb looked fabulous!!
Go, at least you have rock bottom expectations.

Please please keep bubbles well away from tents. Detergent damaged the waterproofing.
Anjo2011 · 06/08/2021 19:13

I think people were happy enough with tents, I was reading that it was the evening entertainment and washing facilities that were not up to par. Do I have an option to get a refund?

motherrunner · 06/08/2021 19:15

@MarianneUnfaithful Absolutely- should have made that point too. We usually camp in massive fields so large spaces between each tents and kids go off to far end of field!

AliciaMayEmory · 06/08/2021 19:15

It can't possibly be worse than Potins at Brean Sands. I checked in that place at 6pm and checked out at 6:30pm! It was vile!

motherrunner · 06/08/2021 19:16

Honestly OP, you’ll get the camping bug and love it!
