To apply for a less well paid job

I'm so completely fed up with my horrible boss. I'm thinking of applying for a much less well paid admin job. I've worked out my finances and I will be able to survive but it will be taking a massive step back in my careers and I would have no spare money and I would give up a good pension.

Im just so fed up of my boss. I don't have an HR department so the only person I can complain to is the awful boss themselves.

I love everyone else I work with but they all hate her too and the majority of them are also looking elsewhere.

I've started applying for this job but I don't know if I'm doing the right thing

If I was at the point of breaking then yes I would.
Even If it means I got out of there for now, I would still be looking for jobs at my level/salary

Hi OP, so sorry to hear this, I've been there and left. It wasn't a huge step down for me but a step down nonetheless. All in all I think I made the right call, but I possibly wasn't giving up as much as you (I don't have a 'career' for example). How long have you been in your current workplace? If you have made your mind up to leave then can that thought sustain you while you find something suitable to move to? You don't say what line of work you're in but is there a chance that something else would come up which wouldn't sacrifice all the privileges you mention? X

Is there a reason why you can’t look for something more similar to your current job?

I understand wanting to get out, and if your mental health is really suffering then go for it. But if you can, I’d wait it out and try to find something more suitable, without taking a big step back.

Been there and took a step down and made a change of career to get away from the company. I knew it wouldn't be forever and as it happens I ended up back in the same career after a few years at the new company and absolutely love it now. I've progressed up the ladder and the salary and couldn't be happier.
You've got to put yourself first and look after you, the step down won't be forever and you'll appreciate it in the long run.

Why not apply for jobs at the same level? There are shortages of people on many industries die to Covid, don't sell yourself short!
