My microwave.

Am I being unreasonable by actively trying to break my (new) microwave oven so that I've got the excuse to replace it?

I just hate everything about it compared to my last one - which lasted me for thirty years.

The horrible noise of the door shutting (and opening) the piercing beep whenever any button is pressed. The three prolonged beeps at the end of the cooking cycle.

Not to mention that the fan doesn't seem to remove steam and condensation from the oven cavity. I have to mop it out before I can think about eating my food.

AIBU?

Just buy a new one that "pings" instead. I hate the long beeps that are two beeps too much for my liking and the plate that comes off its little ridge things.

Get a cheap no frills microwave and use the one you hate as a spare. Job done.

On our local FB page there are charities who would happily accept the donation of a working microwave for homeless people who have just been assigned a microwave. I bet there would be a lot of takers for a free microwave.

🤣 nothing will match up to your 30 year beast! Whatever you replace it with will he crap in comparison. It will be dead in 5 years anyway nothing lasts 30 years anymore

Not that it will help your other issues, but have you checked the manual to see if you can quiet or even mute the beeps?

That is so wasteful. If i left a microwave out on my street eith a note saying ‘nearly new, please help yourself’ it would be gone within the day.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/08/2021 05:55

Loads of new microwaves have a feature so you can turn off the bloody beeping. I did it with mine.

YABU to try and ruin it when there are loads of people who'd be grateful for a freebie!

cheeseisthebest · 05/08/2021 06:22

Why don't you use return it?

OhGiveUp · 05/08/2021 06:23

Accidentally drop it when you move it to clean underneath it.

Take it outside and plug it in with an extension cable, stuff a helium balloon inside it and set it going on high then stand well back. (Joking)

However, see if you can turn the beeps off.
I leave my microwave door slightly open to clear the condensation.
Like yours, my microwave was ancient, a big heavy bugger that put itself into retirement sadly.
In 4 years since, I've had two and what I've noticed is that the base where the plate wheels go round, they take the paint off, leaving a rusty track. Other people have complained of the same.
I've put a piece of greaseproof paper under the wheels of mine now to stop that happening. Ridiculous!

Kinsters · 05/08/2021 06:24

Hopefully you're joking but if not, how wasteful. You know that the planet is drowning in rubbish, right?

Sell or give it away and buy one that you prefer.
