DS body conscious about stretch marks

My DS who is 21 has put on some weight over lockdown, he's gone from wearing small in everything to medium. DS is a bit body conscious as he's developed stretch marks over the last year on his hips, which he says came on all of a sudden. Anyone got any kind words for my DS and got sons around the same age with stretch marks as I feel like DS thinks not many people his age will have them.

I was thinking about posting on this topic.i do think it's quite common and they will fade.
My ds is 16 and has grown a huge amount very suddenly. He is stick thin. He has stretch marks across his back. I was really shocked when I saw them. I've given him bio oil to rub into them (he probably won't bother though).

My son 17 has them across his back. He got his a couple of years ago after a rapid growth spurt. He has been hugely self conscious about them.

However we’ve found it’s really common in boys going through puberty and in the last year his have faded massively. I imagine by next year they’ll be barely there.

My guys are a bit older. They have stretch marks in the same area. No complaints from partners I'm glad to say. Tell him not to worry. Common enough in both sexes.

Let him know how quickly stretch marks fade. Maybe suggest he buys some cocoa butter Smile

My boys have them across backs and on upper arms and thighs. One has them in huge diagonals across his chest to armpit.

They will fade - never minded dh’s:)

I've been with DH since we were 15 - he was covered in stretch marks as a teen - mostly biceps and quads. They faded.

DramaAlpaca · 01/08/2021 17:08

Yes, they fade. Two of my sons got them at puberty. Eldest DS is 27 and his have faded to almost invisible. DS 23 had very vivid ones across his back and they are much less angry looking now. He's still very conscious of them but knowing that his brother's have faded reassures him a lot.

Please reassure your DS that loads of young men have them.

I noticed my 15 yo DS has a lot of stretch marks on his back recently. It's because he has shot up so fast in height, his skin obviously couldn't keep up! They've started fading already though and he's not particularly fussed by them.

Tbh I can't think of any man I've seen up close and naked over the decades who didn't have a few silvery stretch marks on their hips, waist, back or legs! It's incredibly common to get them during puberty and when young men either grow fast or start to fill out a bit/put any muscle on. Really not a big deal at all, no one will notice them when they've faded.

DSS 18 slim has them on his hips and lower back… most of his friends do too

Tal45 · 01/08/2021 17:21

I had them as a teen, can't really see them at all now as they fade to silvery lines which are almost invisible.

kingbed · 01/08/2021 17:39

That's very reassuring thank you, I had read that stretch marks was something that was very common during puberty.

I read that men have as many stretch marks as women. They’re not always noticeable because of their body hair.

nokidshere · 01/08/2021 18:02

My oldest got them at 13 when he suddenly shot up almost 7" in the summer holidays. They are mostly on his tummy and shoulders. He doesn't seem bothered by them and they have faded a little over time - he's 23 now.

Dobbyisahouseelf · 01/08/2021 18:17

More common that people realise, bio oil can help.

Icequeen01 · 01/08/2021 19:12

My DS got stretch marks across his back when he was about 14. They were very red and angry looking - he looked like he'd been attacked by a tiger! He's 21 now and sadly still has them. They have faded a little but not much to be honest which I'm surprised about. He never walks around shirtless as he is very conscious of them.
