To not go on this holiday

Hello
My family are due to be renting a cottage with two other families tomorrow. We’ve just been contacted by track and trace to isolate. One of the other families is very understanding but the other is saying we are being ridiculous for not going and should just ignore. AIBU for thinking we shouldn’t be going?!

You’d be breaking the law by going, wouldn’t you?

Cherrydown · 01/08/2021 15:08

My friends who have been contacted by track and trace have then been spot checked to make sure they were home by the council. I certainly wouldn't be risking it.

DeathStare · 01/08/2021 15:09

And if one of them caught it off you and died, do you think they would stand by what they said?

Happyharry2003 · 01/08/2021 15:09

Yes exactly! Which is why we’ve said no but I just wondered if really most other people are just ignoring this now?!

I agree with everything you have all said. I suppose I just wanted confirmation that I’m in the majority for actually doing the right thing

Was it just the app or an actual personal contact?

Happyharry2003 · 01/08/2021 15:12

Actual person from nhs

Are you planning not to pay your share because you're not going?

That's the only thing that would annoy me

Guavaf1sh · 01/08/2021 15:13

If it’s an app I’d ignore it

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2021 15:13

You can't go, obviously. I'm sorry, that's such a disappointment.

FenceSplinters · 01/08/2021 15:18

If test and trace have contacted you on the phone, not the app, then you have to comply.

Happyharry2003 · 01/08/2021 15:18

Yes still paying share, wouldn’t dream of not. And also straight away knew 100% that we wouldn’t be going. Didn’t even cross my mind that we would - i was just taken aback by the reaction from one set of friends who clearly think we are being silly about it!

I’d be rethinking my friendship with them, of course you should isolate and do the right thing by law.

IcedSpice · 01/08/2021 15:32

I think you are most definitely doing the right thing.

They are very unreasonable

NeonDreams · 01/08/2021 15:37

YANBU this is a serious and deadly virus. But why on earth would you even want to go on holiday with not one other family, but two? Seriously who does that, and why? I'll never understand the UK obsession with no being able to holiday as a nuclear family and needing someone else there. Whatever happened to nuclear family holidays? You NEVER go on holidays with friends (fastest way to fuck up friendships as this site amply proves) or extended family.

Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 15:39

They might be thinking of the app. If you’re contacted by T&T you legally have to and they send people to spot check. Do these people want Covid to ruin their holiday? If you did have it then it would be transferred to 2 families. We are all recovering still 3wks later, it’s no fun, they don’t want the risk believe me

beigebrownblue · 01/08/2021 15:43

Im wondering if there is a cancellation policy in place. Doesn't seem fair that they are still asking for money if you are in isolation. Or is this only covered by insurance?

Happyharry2003 · 01/08/2021 15:50

Thanks all. I have no intention of expecting the others to cancel or get my money back - just wanted to see if I was in a majority or minority in my way of thinking. Thanks all
