Aibu to travel from Glasgow to Birmingham (just under 7 hours on the bus) to just go to the new Primark to see the Harry Potter dept they have? Me and my daughter love HP, but if they don't have a good selection then I don't want to waste money.
Anyone been??

You're welcome. I hope that you enjoy your trip.

@Teaandakitkat

If you both want to go then go. Why not? Even if its a bit shit your dd will remember that you made the effort to take her somewhere she wanted to go.

I once took ds across the country to a plane museum he really wanted to go to. It wasn't nearly as good as he hoped it would be but we enjoyed the trip. Stayed in a Premier Inn, had a hotel breakfast, we had fun.

Sometimes it's the random, not very sensible stuff that stays with you.

That was the reason behind it, doing what she wants and a bonus that I love HP as well. But giving the feedback about the stock, we will just go to Edinburgh and do the dungeons etc. She will enjoy it and be happy that I am taking her away without DH as my anxiety has been quite high. It will be a Premier Inn we stay in probably, which is fine as I love the mattresses and pillows.

Op, not sure where you are in Scotland, but anytime I'm in the Primark in Livingston they have lots of HP stuff. Also Caledonian Travel do trips to HP tour in London, not sure what availability they have at the moment though.

Thanks. I am in Glasgow so might give Livingston a day visit.

There are some really snobby replies on this thread. I think it would be a good day out if you don’t mind the travel. There’s lots of other stuff you can do in Birmingham also. I say go for it OP!

Couch tours to Primark... Confused. What a very strange world we live in.

Fizzbangwallop · 28/07/2021 12:39

@nyprincess do you think your DD would enjoy visiting the HP castle? I think it’s called Alnwick and it’s much nearer to you than Birmingham.

There are some really snobby replies on this thread.

There is nothing remotely snobby about calling a cheap shit shop for what it is. Let's be real.

WorriedMillie · 28/07/2021 12:56

Echo a PP, I don’t think there’s a HP specific section in there any more

DrCoconut · 28/07/2021 13:06

A local coach company does trips there. It's in the brochure alongside more traditional destinations.

The Harry Potter shops on edinburgj are called museum context, the great wizard and diagon house. On cockburn St, South Bridge and Victoria St, there's also a large primark on princes St.

You can visit the Elephant House cafe where JK Rowling did some writing.

Been in today. There was pretty much no Harry Potter stuff. Couple of t-shirts and some flip flops (I did buy the flip flops Smile.) But really not worth going all that way for!

We went to Birmingham just to visit the Disney cafe in Primark and get a Mickey Mouse shaped waffle, but we were on holiday not too far from Birmingham at the time so it didn't involve a 7 hour drive. My DD has recently got into Harry Potter and we're day trip distance to Edinburgh so I might see about doing the walking tour one day before school goes back.

jmh740 · 28/07/2021 19:49

There are plenty of hp themed shops in York if you were interested in a visit there.
