DD has just asked how the horses get to the olympics. I said maybe a big plane thing?

Yes they'll be flown over.

They fly over. I flew my horse to the UK in 2012, and it was inexpensive since so many horses were being flown over.

They go into a portable stall, and a groom travels with them.

Always reminds me of the plane scene in International Velvet…

Too add some details. They are also flown to intermediate places.

My employer housed a few from the middle east before they all flew out to China.

We had all sorts of security talks, interesting but scary.

One of my favourite films ever, but I still have to close my eyes at that bit !

I used to know someone who worked as a travelling groom. For that sort of distance they go on a plane in a special transport stable that gets loaded on (obv heated, pressurised hold) and have grooms to look after them.
If they were going to, say, Spain then they go on a lorry but have overnight stops where they come off, stretch their legs and stay in proper stables have their rugs and leg wraps changed etc.
And they have passports of course
