I've name changed for this as this is embarrassing Blush

My neighbour has a 6yearold son, he's friends with my DD and comes in our garden to play with them, whenever he's here I've called him Darian as that's what I thought his nan called him when we first met. Today, it's my DDs birthday and he gives her a card, his name is actually Damien.

DD has also been calling him Darian Blush

I have no idea why we've never been corrected by him. His father also calls him Jacob, the poor boy must be so confused if he was being called 3 names!

Called my neighbour Derek for 5 years. Only when we moved did I find out he was called Will!!

I called my hairdresser "Ruth" for years. Only when she put a signed note on her door about Covid precautions did I find out her name is "Kate".

Why does his Dad call him Jacob ? - That's is a bit confusing !

When I was a child, my parents were friends with a family and I was sometimes taken to their house to play with their children. One of their children had the same name as me, but as she was 2 months older, her mother declared that she would use that name and while I was at their house I would be called by a totally different name, to save confusion Hmm So I was known as Mary yes they were barking mad
So at least you weren't doing it deliberately, and at least you know his proper name now (and who knows - he may have liked being called Darian Grin)

I worked with someone who called me Anna for years. It’s not my name. Not even close. But it went on too long and I missed the window to say “that’s not my name”. So I just went along with it Blush

It happens Grin

Our neighbour is called Val and I thought she was Jill for about 3 years. She never corrected me!

DH did this with old ndn’s boyfriend. I told him repeatedly his name was Chris but he wouldn’t have it and insisted he was called Dave.

He came in the house for something one night and DH shouted “Dave is here” popped my head around the door and said “hi Chris”. DH finally believed me.

If it's any consolation, I thought my next door neighbour's cat was called "Missy" and had been calling out that name loudly whenever I saw their cat chilling in my back garden... 2 years later I found out it's actually the lady next door who is called Missy, not the cat. I still can't look them in the eye.

My DP and DS1 have the same name. Longtime friends DM calls them both a different name beginning with the same letter but not anywhere near (example, Paul/Peter) we've all given up correcting her and they just respond.
I work in bars and, basically, respond to any name that begins with the same letter as my name. Not offended at all.

New neighbours moved in during lockdown. I was the first to meet the man walking his dog, so found out his, his wife's, his daughter's and the dog's name, where they came from eyc.
I then let the other neighbours know and dropped a welcome card in to their house - as did a couple of other neighbours.
Except I had got the man's name completely wrong eg. Simon rather than Mark.
I eventually had to confess to him when I kept hearing people call him the wrong nsme.
