To feel really thick?

Got told to add up some calculations for hourly work done for a client this week and underestimated my hours so he had to correct it. Now worried he doesn't trust me and that he feels I may have messed up other calculations.

Got the capital of Australia wrong in a quiz.

Didn't understand a game one of the kids was trying to teach me.

I am in my fifties. Sure people see me as a complete joke at times.

I feel your pain! Also mid 50s and definitely finding my thinking has slowed down post-meno. Trying to work out a really simple work problem last week and I was struggling! Quizzes & crosswords getting harder.... but on the other hand I can balance out my mental slow down by applying greater experience to work issues - been there, done that.

Capital of Australia (not Sydney) is a popular wrong answer so I wouldn’t worry about that

We all have our strengths and weaknesses

ohthatbloodycat · 25/07/2021 22:46

Whoo hoo, I knew the capital of Australia!
I am thick in other ways though, particularly where numbers are concerned Sad

ZednotZee · 25/07/2021 22:48

Is it Melbourne?
Brisbane?
Perth?

Fucked if I know. Its not a measure of intelligence but of geographical knowledge.

My mum was sharp as a tack pre menopause.

Shes a bit dizzy at almost sixty six. Its the plummet of oestrogen. Supplement with bio identical stuff if you need to? Or the old HRT?

I knew the capital of Australia but had to have a safety google before posting just in case I didn’t really know it. Grin

Cocomarine · 25/07/2021 22:54

The whole reason capital of Australia is a question, is that it’s not what people expect 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you got the hours wrong, I wouldn’t think you were thick but I would think you were careless. Unless it was the only thing that suggested carelessness - in which case, I’d think you were human.

Canbera but thatbis no big deal to be honest.
Mid 50's is a killer for memory.

Handy though if you have annoying teens👍Flowers

The capital of Australia is in the quiz as it is one that a lot of people get wrong. The answer is unexpected, if you haven't studied Capital cities of the World.

The game - if it isn't something you are interested in, then you won't necessarily.

"Thick" isn't really a nice word to call anybody. Including yourself.

All of us find some things easy and other things more difficult, partly through the way our brain is wired, partly through interests and motivation, partly through previous experience. Not 'getting' some things just means you don't 'get' those things.

Of course the work thing is a bit different, if you are employed to do something for a client and then get that wrong. We can all make mistakes and presumably the client will be aware of that. As the the figures and whether there should be a system in place to check for mistakes, only you will know - we don't know what you do and how important this is.

I am 50. I find I just don't retain things in the same way as I did when younger
