AIBU - 4 Year Old Riding in the Road

I cycle each morning for fitness and pass through local residential areas. On one of the quiet streets I regularly pass, I saw an older lad in his late teens cycling in the street while a 4 year old struggled to pedal alongside him on the pavement. The little boy was about 4.

After I rounded the corner into the next busier road, I stopped for a minute and they went by with the four year old following his brother cycling right in the middle of the road. As,I came back around they had joined the early main road with the four year old still in the road. It was early, but there are still cars about on these roads, usually appearing unexpectedly and going at a fair lick.

At the end of the road, the older boy swung in front of the junction to do a loop and the little boy toddled after him crossing the street on his tiny bike. If any cars had come around the corner they would have ploughed straight into them, as there would b4 so little time to see them and stop.

I (politely) told the older boy that he should be careful with such a young lad and got a less than polite response In return as you might imagine - was told to mind my own business basically.

AIBU and getting old and a busybody? It felt wrong to just cycle on by - when my son was that age I wouldn’t dream of taking him on a little bike into the main roads while I rode ahead. But maybe a case of ‘you do you and I’ll do me”. If I see them again, I am tempted to knock on the house because I am sure he is not the little lad’s dad - no parent would be that crazily irresponsible?

No. A kid that small shouldn't be on the road at all
