To think we should be able to use facilities each day?

We booked to go on a city break for 4 nights for friends special birthday in 2 weeks.

Going to a hotel that she’s been to before and really like the faculties- Gym, pool etc….

She’s got a health condition but can improve symptoms with exercise (joints and circulation issues) so she’s very in to her workouts etc. (I on the other hand am a lazy cow and couldn’t think of anything worse on a mini holiday, but it’s for her)

She was advised to book slots for the gym and that’s what she’s done the last couple of times she’s stayed there.

So she called this evening to reserve 4 slots for the 4 days (one each day) and they says she couldn’t as it will be too busy and wouldn’t be fair on other guests…. She was allowed to book 2 of the days.

Now we booked that hotel specifically for the facilities because that’s what she wanted to do. I understand there’s other guests, but surely if you have to book it, then it’s a first come first serve? They are getting 4 lots of payments from us and if they had 4 different guests staying each night, then it wouldn’t be a problem and each of the 4 separate guests would be ok to book a slot (as long as there were spaces) so why should my friend be penalised for staying four 4 nights?

I mean, I can kind of see that they want to keep spaces available for other guests, but again, the point is, she’s being penalised for staying 4 nights?

Will they let you book slots on the other two days and then your friend use them?

Sparklfairy · 24/07/2021 22:30

So is the problem that one guest is (in their view) taking too many slots? Can you book 2 and let her use them?

NoSquirrels · 24/07/2021 22:32

You book the other two - she uses them. Everyone happy.

(But YANBU, probably.)

Notimeforaname · 24/07/2021 22:33

Yes as above..was going to say give her your slots on the other two days since you dont like doing those things.

Jangle33 · 24/07/2021 22:37

Was this on the website/t’s and c’s when you booked? If yes YABU! If no then I would complain. A lot!

Well I did suggest that she uses my slots, as I couldn’t care less and I actually won’t be using the gym, but she wants me to go with her, so we can use the other leisure facilities together and ‘relax and chill out together’.

I think you get a leisure pass, regardless of whether you use all the stuff, such as gym and it’s still counted as one pass, if that’s makes sense.

Friend booked it and didn’t check as she’s stayed before so assumed it was fine. I’m going to check the site now and if it doesn’t say anything then I’ll be annoyed. If it does then fair enough

Are they blaming it on covid? Or do you have to book normally? It sounds like something a member of staff has made up on the spot. Really poor. The chances are it won't even be full so she would miss out for no reason, on her birthday trip. I would suggest contacting the manager / using social media to complain.

Notimeforaname · 24/07/2021 22:48

Well unless you send them an email asking them to reconsider because of friends condition I cant see what else you can do.

Leftbutcameback · 24/07/2021 22:49

(I'm like your friend - swimming is good for my health condition and if there's a hotel pool I'll be in there every day)

Notimeforaname · 24/07/2021 22:51

Partner and I have stayed in some hotels recently and we did have to book leisure/activities in advance but it was first come first served, no limit on days.

Have you paid upfront? Whats the cancellation policy? If you can be refunded/cancel without charge perhaps you could last minute search a similar hotel?

imacuddler · 24/07/2021 22:57

Aren't things back to normal now?
Why are they still booking slots and limiting numbers?

TableFlowerss · 24/07/2021 23:02

Actually, I’ve just looked in their website and it certainly doesn’t say anything about limiting the amount of times you can use the facilities, if you’re staying for several nights!

It just says they’re offering restricted access to the facilities so you need to book if you want to use them- obviously not those exact words but to that effect.

And it’s due to government guidelines- which I thought was moot now anyway…. 🙄

The more I’m reading these replies the more mad I’m getting with the hotel.

It was through a third party booking site so it’s paid but I think you can cancel up until a day or two before and get a refund.

Sounds daft but if she’s really keen to use Tuesday facilities for her health she’ll use your allocation for your other days and prioritise her exercise over you keeping her company. Which leaves you free to lie around which a book instead - certainly my choice!

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/07/2021 23:12

*the not Tuesday…
