To ask how to watch the Olympic events I'm interested in?

Ok bear with me.. I'm aware the Olympics is all over the BBC. But I'm not massively into sport and only really like certain event. For example the gymnastics. But when we've put it on to record on our virgin box it just says day 1 with no details on the actual sports/events.

So I'm having to go in and fast forward, howling a graphic comes up with what's in this programme or just fast forward until I get to a sport I like. Obviously this is no huge hardship but there's bloody hours of it so it takes a long time.

There are the events on euro sport where it tells you the sport on the programme recording. But there wasn't any commentary. As I watch sport so infrequently I really need a bit to know what's going on like is it good or not?! As compared to my ability it always looks amazing.

So how do other people watch the Olympics? Do you juat pop it one and hope for the best? Is there a schedule? Feels like in this day and age the BBC could have each event on iplayer under a different programme?

Any help or advice on how to enjoy the Olympics on TV much appreciated.

The mainstream free to view channels are not showing every event. DS wants to watch Archery. It would appear that the only was of doing this is to get Discovery+.

this might help.

Just shell out four quid for the Radio Times special edition. Much easier.

Red button on the iplayer has different feeds, they have live and highlights. Bit limited at the minute but it might be something.

Eurosport / discovery is the best way to watch what you want . The BBC red button coverage thus far has been dire so I’m now on Eurosport which is fine . The other advantage is you don’t get the constant drivel from commentators about people’s children / history etc which the BBC specialise in .

The IOC didn't give BBC the whole rights. So they can only show two sports at any one time unfortunately. This is why they don't have all the channels this year and Eurosport does

I have the Discovery+ app and you can watch it all on there. You can pick live events or by previous event/sport. I think you can get a 7 day free trial, I paid €60 for 12 months. I got it for the documentaries and reality TV, the Olympics are a happy bonus I wasn't expecting

Try here for scheduled date & times. Use the filter on the left hand side menu for the sport you're interested in:

This is exactly what I was looking for. But embarrassing but honestly I've never bought I TV guide so didn't think. Sometimes the most simple solutions are the best. Jesus I feel daft!

I might look at discovery too. Although I'm nit that into it so I'm not sure it would be value for money.

I did know about the BBC not having all the rights. But hadn't realised this curtailed how many sports they could show at once.

Hope you had get to see the events you are interested in OP.

Someone my son went to school with is playing for GB right now (women's footie). I dare say it's the 1st elite-level game I've taken such interest in since about 1999.

I had No idea this game would be shown right now, finding the schedule opaque.

Frenchfemme · 24/07/2021 12:47

It’s on French tv now (probably not very helpful,).

tallduckandhandsome · 24/07/2021 12:48

Do you have Sky Q, OP?

It has a Tokyo 2020 homepage where you can clock on individual events from BBC, Eurosport, YouTube etc

tallduckandhandsome · 24/07/2021 12:49

click on

spanieleyes · 24/07/2021 13:11

I got discovery +free for 12 months with sky q, currently watching the swimming!

Papergirl1968 · 24/07/2021 20:56

It is really frustrating, especially with the time difference. I also like gymnastics but I’m not getting up in the early hours to see which red button channel (feed?) it’s on!
I have Virgin which I think includes Eurosport, but I do enjoy the BBC commentary!

Silkiecats · 24/07/2021 21:00

I got Discovery, its 6.99 for 1 month or 29.99 for year. Very good Olympics coverage.

OneTC · 24/07/2021 21:13

We were watching it on Eurosport earlier and taking it in turns to do the commentary on the natural sounds one
