to think it's too hot to do anything

I am in the house, far too hot to go outside, and too hot in the house to concentrate on anything either (WFH very part-time.)

This is the 5th day and I am fed up with it.

OP posts:

YANBU

My kids are at exH's, house is too hot, outside is too hot so I've come into work - I'm a teacher, no one is even in we broke up weeks ago 😂 but doing some prep for September in my freezing cold classroom as I figure now is as good a time as any Grin

Youdiditanyway · 22/07/2021 12:37

29 degrees here and I’m struggling. Genuinely felt ill last night, just so nauseous and lightheaded. Struggling with it but have to soldier on, need to walk to collect DC in a couple of hours.

Redhotchilis · 22/07/2021 12:40

I'm currently sat watching my DCs ice-skate.. this is the place to be OP, It's a blissful temperature Grin

Endeavormorse · 22/07/2021 12:41

I bought an portable air con unit 3 years ago and it's worth its weight in gold! £250 from Screwfix

adeleh · 22/07/2021 12:42

Sadly a lot of people have died in the heatwave in Canada this year. It’s not a great comparison really.

DinkBoo · 22/07/2021 12:42

28 degrees and, according to my dehumidifier, 90% humidity in my house right now.

It's like living in soup. Sad

beigebrownblue · 22/07/2021 12:43

cool breeze now here and rain on the way
Hoorah

BluebirdHill · 22/07/2021 12:43

Same here, on leave and feel like I should be out enjoying the sun with DC but it's tooooo hot. Staying indoors and not moving.

emilylily · 22/07/2021 12:44

I sort of love how it's impossible to do anything in this weather but then I have luxury of doing that just now. I'm planning a day of cold drinks, ice lollies and sitting in the front of a fan!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/07/2021 12:44

Starting to cool off slightly here, so I hope it comes your way soon. By cool I mean about 26 instead of 31.Hmm

I went to Aldi this morning to make full use of their excellent air con!

FinallyHere · 22/07/2021 12:48

Another admitting to having teo portable air con units, purchased a good few years ago.

We cool the study/office and our bedroom, and spend our days holed up there. We only make foreys anywhere else in the house. The kitchen is south facing and gelling hot. Living on yoghurt, frozen fruit and water

The Sunny windows have blinds drawn, other windows open. The is no through draft in the house because we have to keep the doors closed for the air con so the rest of the house gets very hot.

I've sat on the patio at 4am enjoying the relative coolness and quiet.

Planning to get build in air con sometime soon, but nit during the current rush, maybe next winter.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 22/07/2021 12:48

Yep, unfortunately I have work happening in the house next week that means I have a firm deadline to get loads of painting done and a shed built. So just used 40 minutes of my lunch break to build the shed carcass (thank you whoever invented plastic sheds!!!) and was painting at midnight last night. Sweating like a pig!

AnyFucker · 22/07/2021 12:56

Spent the last few days at work in an absolute furnace. Prefab building with large east facing windows and no air con. Having to deal with the general public in PPE and keep excusing myself to wipe the sweat running down my face

Today I had my coffee in the garden at 7am now sat in the shade doing the square root of fuck all

BountyIsUnderrated · 22/07/2021 13:03

I'm wfh. Can't focus because it's too hot and fan is only blowing hot air around.
I feel sick and have no appetite I think from having to drink so much water.
Can't work out as it's too hot. Sad

Sunshineandflipflops · 22/07/2021 13:05

I've been for a run, been to the office and done a bit of food shopping. Now WFH with a fan pointed at me and am fine. Going to go and sit outside with my book soon.

I ran at 7am so that it wasn't too hot, so it's just about making adjustments for me.

Holly60 · 22/07/2021 13:06

YABU. It’s not too hot to do anything:
a) sit in shady part of garden with feet in cold water and a chilled glass of white wine.
b) go to outdoor lido or pool
c) go to art gallery or similar where it will be cool and dark
d) meet friends for lunch at cafe with outdoor shaded area
e) put on cool cotton, pale clothing, sun hat, sunglasses and go for a walk

I absolutely LOVE the warm weather. Don’t want it to go

pinatastick · 22/07/2021 13:17

I'm really at struggling with the heat, especially at night. But we're forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain all weekend, and I'm not happy about that either! I want sun please, just slightly cooler than this!

CrouchEndTiger12 · 22/07/2021 13:18

Clearly it isn't as people have to and do work in this.

EdithGrantham · 22/07/2021 13:24

I'm pregnant (40+4) and meant to be keeping upright to encourage the baby to get and stay engaged but my feet are swollen from the heat so I'm simultaneously meant to be keeping them elevated. I'm also meant to be staying active to encourage labour to start but also not over exert myself in the heat. Don't know what to do with myself and definitely had enough of the heat.

pootleforPM · 22/07/2021 13:27

I've had the week off and I had so many plans to do errands, DIY, garden stuff etc. Instead I've spent pretty much the whole week in the paddling pool. I'm not complaining though it's even nice! I am looking forward to the rain at the weekend though.

BountyIsUnderrated · 22/07/2021 15:02

Ok I'm working 10 hours in my office and temp has officially reached 35c in my room.
Windows open doing nothing, fan doing nothing.
I literally am sweating buckets.. Think I'm going to need to invest in an air con unit.
Can feel the heat coming from my laptop ugh. Sad

Googlewasmyidea1 · 22/07/2021 15:08

I can live it with mostly during the day as I work from home but night time is awful I need my sleep

EdithGrantham · 22/07/2021 16:29

@BountyIsUnderrated that sounds awful! If you can I highly recommend sitting with your feet in a washing up bowl of cold water.

BountyIsUnderrated · 22/07/2021 17:00

@edithgrantham

I didn't even think of that good idea!

I've finished now but had to have several ice coffees, gone round the rest of the house its almost as bad but at least I don't have to work through it.
Currently sat in front of the fan spraying water on myself lol!
Just glad rain is forecast on the weekend although I dread to think what August will be like.
Trouble is house is well insulated so it's just keeping the heat in.
