Screaming from across the fields tonight..

Hello,

So I'm currently in bed trying to get to sleep, but all I can hear is an awful, almost human like screaming coming from across the fields.
We live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields.. only one immediate neighbour.

It sounds awful, like someone or something is in pain! I've never lived around so much open space before so totally not used to the sounds. It's really loud..

Would I be unreasonable to go out and see what it could be? I'm scared someone or something is in danger?

I cant exactly explain the sound.. it's just strange and weirdly haunting looking out the window trying to locate it, and my eye literally can't see past the fence at the end of the garden. It's SO dark.

Is it foxes?

Foxes sometimes make the most awful noises. You might be able to find a recording and see if it sounds like what you're hearing.

Is it foxes? They make the weirdest noise when they scream, first time I heard it I thought it was a woman but it was definitely foxes.

Thank you all! I think it must be an animal! Yes, it does sound like a woman screaming for her life...! 😣🥲 really terrified me!! I wonder if it's just that I've never heard it before as usually we close the windows but with it being so warm, I've left them open tonight.

Another vote for foxes. They make the most horrific noise. Sounds just like someone screaming!

Foxes. I love them, but I hate the noises they make. Really sets off my anxiety.

Foxes claiming territory, young cubs will be coming out with mum now too, they have woke me up every day for a week now.

It will not be foxes shagging!! Territory maybe yes but they are miles off breeding season.

Foxes do make sounds like someone’s being killed, but I thought that was earlier in the year?

Muntjac deer screams can sound very human. I reckon it's them or foxes.

This happened to my dh the other night when we were camping. He shat himself although I slept through it. There were no murders on the campsite that we were aware of so we thought it must be foxes.
