to go to the theatre?

Cases are rising, etc. etc. but I have West End theatre tickets for Saturday, rebooked from last year.

No chance of a refund or postponing to a later date. My friend is still up for going, and I need to collect the tickets, although we may be able to sort this out by ringing the box office if she wants to go without me.

I have had one vaccine, and a mild case of covid already, so I am not worried about getting the virus, but I will be very annoyed if I end up being contacted by track and trace or have covid, and miss my second vaccine (three days later) due to isolating.

Fairly sure DH doesn't want me to go as everytime I ask him his response is: "It's your decision" or "I can't decide for you". I imagine he will be annoyed if I do have to isolate, or actually get covid, although he would try to hide it.

I will be careful, social distance as much as possible, and wear a mask etc. but a couple of people I have spoken to are horrified that I am even considering going.

So AIBU to go?

If I had tickets I'd still go, but each to their own really. I'm double jabbed and I feel like I need to get on with things now, come what may!

Picklypickles · 21/07/2021 15:03

I would go, you're no more likely to get covid in the theatre than you are from anywhere else really, so unless you're not going anywhere at all usually why avoid the theatre and waste the tickets!

Daisychaincarrot · 21/07/2021 15:05

Well you CAN postpone, they’ve all got Covid clauses if you’re self isolating and don’t require proof that you’re isolating so that excuse is nonsense.

I would go. Wear an FFP2 mask which also protects you not just the others, and mind your distance from other people.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 21/07/2021 15:10

I'd go. In fact I did yesterday. We wore masks, and almost everyone else in the audience was too. Tbh if I get pinged now and have to SI it was worth it Grin

Of course go

I'm going tomorrow

Go, enjoy it. You gotta live your life

Okay well it turns out technically I could lie and get a refund, but everything is technically sold out, so I couldn't necessarily get tickets for another performance. Plus, I would have to lie, and I am not going to do that, especially to an industry that has been devastated by the past two years.

Well this is the problem, DP especially has barely been anywhere since March 2020 (only to friend's houses and a few times to pubs and restaurants where we know the social distancing is good). He has always been a bit of a homebody, but I am worried he is never going to want to go again. He's always been a bit anxious about germs and I am very worried what the past two years have done to him. His attitude makes me second guess my decisions, hence this post!

I would go (and did go in March 2020 as Italy locked down). If you feel comfortable going and know that you could have to isolate (and any knock on effect to future plans/employment) then crack on (although this viewpoint is similar for all activities we do now!) and have a fantastic time!

Mindymomo · 21/07/2021 15:49

I really don’t know what I would do. I have only had a couple of meals inside with lots of distance between, so haven’t been anywhere full inside. It all depends on what you are comfortable with.
