Sorry, I know we're all sick of it.

Can anyone tell me because I can't find the information anywhere - if you are asymptomatic but test positive, how far back do they go to trace contacts?

What I mean is, I know if you're positive and have symptoms, anyone who's been in contact with you from within 48 hours prior to you developing symptoms is considered a contact. But if you've had no symptoms, how does it work? I can't find it on the gov website.

It was 48 hours pre test being taken for my daughter, but this was last year. Not sure if it has changed.

Thank you @ChocBeforeCock - sounds sensible.

If anyone has a link to official guidance on this, I'd be very grateful :)

Yes, they go on 48 hours prior to testing positive if there are no symptoms, as they don’t have anything else to go by, so they presume that’s the time period you would be most infectious.

Thanks, @Mindymomo

In wales they have recently stopped tracing back 14 days and only do 2 now unless you work in a care home, hospital and one other thing that I can't remember lol, they trace up to a week.
But only people who had contact 48 hours before the swab have to isolate (and anyone they had contact with after the swab)
