Is it acceptable to use notes in a virtual interview?

I have a virtual interview later on today for a nursery position and have been doing lots of research about EYFS, ELGs, procedure and protocol. There is so much information I'm struggling to remember it all.

Would it be wrong to use notes in my interview revert back to? I wouldn't be constantly looking down and reading off a script, more to prompt.

I don't have any experience in a nursery setting but have worked as a midday in a primary school with EYFS children.

When I’m doing a virtual presentation & need notes, I have Zoom taking up 3/4 of the screen & my notes in Notepad at the side. Nobody realises you’re looking at them then.

I did this last year - first ever virtual interview and I kept my notes where I could see them but the interviewers couldn't.

I barely used them but it was a comfort to know they were there

Got the job too :)

Good Luck! x

I had notes for my teams interview last year. I think it helped me get the job as it reminded me of the jargon to use in early years. Good luck x

Totally acceptable! I've had a couple of zoom interviews recently and had the person description, the job spec and notes all printed out in front of me just off camera.

I do this as well - for interviews, important meetings where I’m leading etc.

The trick is to have very brief, condensed notes that trigger your memory, not tomes that you have to scroll through!

I’ve had virtual interviews. The wall behind and the table were covered in notes - how would they know?

I don’t see the problem - the notes were all my own work. It helped with the nerves. They were notes that would help me in the job anyway.

I did one recently with bullet points on post it notes right the way round my PC screen. Worked a treat. Good luck X

If you would take notes into a face to face interview, yes. Otherwise, no.

Oblomov21 · 20/07/2021 10:09

I thought that it was a standard that you did!

Post-it notes on the edge of your screen with pointers!

AwFeebs · 20/07/2021 10:20

Great thank you all! Will make sure they're shirt and concise notes not essays. Grin

Really want this position so fingers crossed!

I’ve used key words / points on post it notes in the past and stuck them around the edges of my screen.

Good luck! 🤞🏻

Ive done many lectures (before the days of zoom) and used notes on 4x6 cards which I worked through as I progressed. As other posters have said they should be brief memory triggers! No one will expect you to remember everything - its not Dragons Den!

newnortherner111 · 23/07/2021 15:53

Congratulations and I hope the job is everything you hope for.
