To think that as the main Netflix account holder...

Netflixwoes · 20/07/2021 07:50

... There should be a setting to override the other leechers viewers from watching if the main account holder wants to watch?

Eg. Main account holder signs in, and instead of us getting the "Too many people watching" message, it's transferred to the other people, and we automatically get access? Grin

I was paying for 4 screens at a time, but at £13.99 a month I've had enough. I've now selected the basic plan at £5.99/month, so I know that the three other profiles on my account will probably stop me from watching, as I'm pretty sure they all watch it heavily every day. I KNOW I'm probably being unreasonable because I should just a) ask them to contribute to the premium 4 screen plan or b) show some tough love and sign out of all devices and quickly log in to claim my victory whenever I want to watch something. But in reality I'm a shy wallflower Blush

AIBU to think that Netflix should give the main account holder this ultimate power?

Change your password.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/07/2021 07:51

Who are the other watchers?

Shelddd · 20/07/2021 07:51

I think the idea is that you should really only be watching at one household at a time so you should just be able to shout at them to get off. Obviously in practice people share accounts across multiple locations but that's actually against the terms of service.

Netflixwoes · 20/07/2021 07:52

Other watchers:

2 family members and one friend.

I could change my password, but I actually don't mind them watching it most of the time (when I don't want to watch it myself!).

Problem will go away if you change the password. Tell the other people to get their own account

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/07/2021 07:53

They give you ultimate powers...
Option of more screens so everyone can watch in peace or a password (also password for each on the first option).

toolazytothinkofausername · 20/07/2021 07:53

YABU. I doubt Netflix wants you sharing your account with other people.

Netflixwoes · 20/07/2021 07:53

@shelddd Yes, you're absolutely right.

You can "sign out all devices" from the Netflix account settings. Then sign yourself in before all the others do. No need to change passwords.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 20/07/2021 07:55

My sibling asked me for my login details so she could share it. I pay the basic £5.99 plan.

I said how will that work when you and your DC watch TV all the time ...when would we get to?

I would delete the other 3 profiles and change the password

endofthelinefinally · 20/07/2021 07:57

You either pay for 4 people and split the cost, or you pay for your basic account and change the password. Why should you pay for others to watch for free? The 4 screen bundle is very reasonable if everyone pays their share.

ZenNudist · 20/07/2021 07:58

^this, madness

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/07/2021 07:59

I think you'll need to tell them it isn't working for you anymore.

DH works away. We have to negotiate with each other who is using which streaming service on each day. But its give and take. Your friends are just taking at the moment.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/07/2021 07:59

Yep, sign out all others! I share my account but I pay for it so I have priority.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 20/07/2021 07:59

We leech our friends Netflix but with the proviso that if that ever happens to them they’ll message and ask us to stop watching so they can. I’d message them saying so and if in 10 mins no one has logged out… change password.

KihoBebiluPute · 20/07/2021 08:00

Yanbu but the 'sign out other devices' facility already exists.

Have a WhatsApp group for "People who share @Netflixwoes's Netflix" and let people know ideally at least an hour in advance when you are going to need to use the account so they have fair warning. If anyone fails to log out you can boot them out and change the password then share the new password on the WhatsApp group once your film is finished.

This would be totally reasonable behaviour and anyone who doesn't like it can get their own account.

Yabu to expect NetFlix to make this easier for you. The service isn't supposed to be shared across more than one household so your woes are of your own making.

Netflixwoes · 20/07/2021 08:03

Yep, I think you're all right and I should just suck it up and ask all others to contribute. It would work out cheaper than all of them having their own account after all!

We allow our elderly mothers access to our Netflix account - as we only generally watch in the evenings we've told them they can only watch in the daytime up until 6pm (they are perfectly happy with that)

You shot yourself in the foot by giving access to your friend, you need to boot her off or ask her to text you before she wants to use the account.

But it would cost you hardly anything to add them! That seems really mean to tell him to stop watching at 6 pm.

I don't think you understand Netflix!

They are already added, but we also have two dc on it as well. They are at home all day, it's no hardship for them to catch up on their Netflix in the afternoons!

DeflatedGinDrinker · 20/07/2021 08:31

I pay the higher price for this reason. It's only a few quid more and saves be getting annoyed at my primary aged nephews watching it all the time. I could never kick them off 😆

DeflatedGinDrinker · 20/07/2021 08:32

Me**

MiddleClassProblem · 20/07/2021 08:35

It seems like you offered it too them and now are resentful and taking it away. YABU on that basis.

squiglet111 · 20/07/2021 08:38

This happened to us often. We pay for the 4 screen account and sometimes haven't been able to watch it. My husband keeps giving the password out to all his family. With 4 of us here all wanting to watch different things, we can use the 4 screens at the same times sometimes. So I changed the password! Told him to stop giving it out! freeloaders need to get their own accounts!
