To not want to be the font of all foreign travel knowledge?

We went abroad early July and navigated all of the testing, locator forms, etc etc. Green list. Not that difficult, you just need to follow instructions.

Since then I've had about 5 separate friends asking question after question after question about where to find this form, what test to get, what was the airport like, yada yada yada.

Slightly lighthearted but would it be unreasonable to just tell them to fucking Google it? Seriously I've spent ages answering questions. We had no one to ask when we went so we just had to work it out for ourselves!

Yabu

YABU....you can google lots of things but people tend to want to know of people's real experiences. Half the MN boards wouldn't exist if you couldn't post questions you can have answered via Google....

caughtinanet · 19/07/2021 19:44

I would find that annoying too, you aren't responsible for making sure they get the rules right and I certainly wouldn't want to feel it was on my shoulders to make sure their holiday went smoothly

I've seen influencer types on Instagram telling people what to do, they can follow one of them if they aren't capable of looking it up themselves

Aprilx · 19/07/2021 19:56

Helping five friends out by answering a couple of questions wouldn’t bother me much.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/07/2021 20:00

It is quite annoying! What would worry me would be that my info was out of date and that my friends would blindly follow it and come unstuck!

bigbluebus · 19/07/2021 20:04

Just tell them to check it out for themselves as it might have changed since you went - as things seem to change on an hourly/daily basis - and you wouldn't want to give them the wrong information!

Squirrelblanket · 19/07/2021 20:06

I would just say something along the lines of that the requirements for each country can be very different and as requirements are changing all the time it's best if they look it up for themselves as you really don't want to be giving them the wrong information. Smile

Yanbu!
I flew Europe to the UK last week.
Spent days sorting out paperwork. I'm not doing it for anyone else.
And I'm sick of Brits in Europe moaning about not visiting family for two years when I've managed to get over 3 times to visit my elderly parents during covid.
At great cost and lots of boring quarantine i might add.
They see me as irresponsible. I see myself as very responsible for both my parents physical and mental health.

tiredofthisshit21 · 19/07/2021 20:10

Didn't think of things changing - good one, will use that. Some of these people aren't even close friends and I haven't even heard from them in ages til now.

Send them a few links to information at least, I suggest.

Weebleweeble · 19/07/2021 20:14

Where is a website with up to date and reliable information.
I woudn't know where to start and would be worried what I found was not true or from last year.

TillyTopper · 19/07/2021 20:16

I'd just write the same to each one "Here what we did... x, y, z. But as I'm sure you know things change all the time so do check it out thoroughly". And leave it at that.

melj1213 · 19/07/2021 20:47

I'd answer their first question in a general way but then direct them to Google for specifics/current rules.

"We did ABC, but honestly, with the way the rules are constantly changing your best bet is to Google everything for the most up to date ones because I'd hate to give you out of date info and miss something important."

yellowsofa · 19/07/2021 21:09

OP, I've had this too. Loads of people, friends of friends etc.
I stopped when one of them started challenging my info repeatedly. Seriously. I didn't even know her.
