To peel carrots before cooking

DH doesn't bother which I think is a bit grim. He thinks I'm wasting time peeling them.

So let's put this most pressing of issues to rest....

YANBU = peel those carrots
YABU = stop wasting precious minutes of your life

Nah no need

redyellowpurple · 19/07/2021 18:46

Nah - all the good stuff is in the skin!

Babymamamama · 19/07/2021 18:47

I peel normal ones but I only wash organic ones prior to cooking. I was told that carrots hold a hell of a lot of pesticide in the skin so YANBU to peel them.

SuperSleepyBaby · 19/07/2021 18:50

It hardly takes any time to peel them if you a good peeler.

TheAwfuITruth · 19/07/2021 18:51

Nah cannae be fagged.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/07/2021 18:51

I always peeled because that's what I have seen others do , but I'll just wash from now on.

NotAnotherPushyMum · 19/07/2021 18:51

If they’ve been washed properly there’s no need to peel.

Tibtab · 19/07/2021 18:52

I peel them because I find that the skin tastes bitter

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 19/07/2021 19:58

I do as I read some govt dept guidance about carrots really holding pesticides in their skin so the advice was to peel them, unlike other root veg.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 19/07/2021 20:01

www.sustainweb.org/publications/carrot_fashion/ this link discusses the Ministry of Ag. advice to peel them.

TurquoiseDragon · 19/07/2021 20:06

I peel mine.

OwlBasket · 19/07/2021 20:07

Sometimes the massive ones need a good scrub to thin the skin, I never peel them though.

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2021 20:13

I peel them unless I am roasting them. No particular logic granted.

PearlJamButties · 19/07/2021 20:14

If its for cooking no, but eating raw yes!

I don't actually peel them I scrape them with a sharp knife.

I don't know why, carrots and new potatoes get done this way, probably because my mum did them like that?

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2021 20:14

By the time I be washed them I could've peeled them. It takes seconds to peel a carrot.

NatMoz · 19/07/2021 20:16

I've always peeled but only because my mum does and I have never questioned it!

Eleoura · 19/07/2021 20:17

I always peel after crunching down on a gritty bit of soil once!

I guess they are the same as potatoes and grown in the ground. If I have potatoes unpeeled, I scrub them first with a potato scrubbing brush. I could use it on carrots, but peel instead.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/07/2021 20:19

I peel them because our rabbit adores carrot peelings above anything else. We have organic carrots for precisely the reasons PP have mentioned, but I could not deny our buncake her peelings

StepladderToHeaven · 19/07/2021 20:21

I don't peel mine.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/07/2021 20:22

Neither of you are unreasonable, it's a matter of taste. There's no right or wrong answer, as with any food type question, if you like it, eat it that way. There's no need to conform to whatanyone else does.

occa · 19/07/2021 20:33

Always peel.

PickAChew · 19/07/2021 20:35

I don't like the texture of the skin.
