I woke up an hour ago thinking I was going to shit myself. At PIL, so crept to toilet and have just been sat there trying to muffle the sounds of the whole liquified World falling out of my bottom.

Bowels sound like thunder, I've never experienced anything like it before.

Does this sound like norovirus? If so, how can I stop rest of family esp PIL from getting this? Have day of excursions planned plus 2 hr drive home tomorrow eek. Any tips?!

If it was noro it would be coming from both ends. What did you eat?

hawkehurstgang · 18/07/2021 05:01

It could just be ... Nothing? Like I've had it before where I've had a really upset stomach and then been fine afterwards. Could just be something you ate?

Aquamarine1029 · 18/07/2021 05:02

It could be Covid. My daughter and I had this when we had it. Horrific, honestly. You need to stay away from everyone, to the best of your ability, and get a test.

Thomasina79 · 18/07/2021 05:05

Imodium instants are worth a try. D&V are going round and can knock you for six. Yes keep away from others as much as possible and get home as soon as you can. I know two people who have had this and both spent two days in bed.

fiskarswhiskars · 18/07/2021 05:10

Had BBQ and picnic yesterday so could be that although I've had food poisoning before and new exactly what I'd eaten that was causing the prob.

Don't feel particularly sick.

DS was complaining of sore tummy at bedtime but went to sleep ok.

The churning noises are so loud!

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure the churning stomach is one of the symptoms of food poisoning. I had food poisoning a few years ago after eating some bad pork and the noise from my stomach was awful, even for about a week or so afterwards. 18 shits in one hour...shit myself inside out that day.

Iggly · 18/07/2021 05:46

It could be something undercooked from the bbq…

Vilanelle · 18/07/2021 05:49

Funnily enough I was awake at 2.30 with stomach cramps and diaoreah. Still bad now.

I had a bbq yesterday and suspected my burger was underdone. I guess now we know

JuneJuly · 18/07/2021 07:57

I've done horrible stuff on the toilet the last couple of nights but feel ok in myself otherwise. I'm putting it down to the heat.

AvaCallanach · 18/07/2021 08:02

When I have had noro (many, many times) it just depends where the food is in your system as to whether you get V or D or both. I have certainly had only "D" noro that has come on once the food has already passed my stomach (eg early hours). I would imagine it's that as it's running rampant according to press.

GameSetMatch · 18/07/2021 08:12

I have IBS and often have stomach churning, it might be something that hasn’t agreed with you or a very mild food poisoning. Could it be stress?

GameSetMatch · 18/07/2021 08:20

Sorry just seen you asked for tips, get DH to go and buy Lopamide tablets, they’re really cheap and will have you right as rain in no time. They help so much with IBS it means I can actually go out and about without accidents 😑

feliznavidad2 · 18/07/2021 08:24

DON'T take loperamide if it's a bug or food poisoning, it'll only make you feel worse.

PoppityPop · 18/07/2021 08:27

It could just be food poisoning or a bug but definitely not norovirus. That produces sudden onset, uncontrollable D&V - for hours at a time. It’s better out that in but if you get some Imodium it might make it less unpleasant. It’s so awful being at someone else’s house if this happens, you have my sympathies Flowers

poorbuthappy · 18/07/2021 08:27

Underdone burger is unlikely to give you food poisoning. Unless it was a chicken burger.

Pippa12 · 18/07/2021 08:28

Norovirus is literally sitting on the toilet and spewing in the sink relentlessly. It’s violent and all consuming, horrendous! If you’ve got it there is no maybe about it. I’m a nurse and witnessed/experienced it more than I’d care to remember!

From experience I’d rule out Covid-19, many many people reporting gastric symptoms who test positive with few other symptoms, including my DH who is currently positive.

My bet is the BBQ- notorious for food poisoning and stomach upsets. Normally I’d say let it come out but if I had a trip planned/staying away from home I’d take the Imodium.

If you really want to protect your PIL tho, I’d get a test and head home.

wishawish91 · 18/07/2021 08:30

I've had norovirus twice, one time it was only vomiting, another time diarrhoea and what you are describing as a churning stomach.

I was also drenched in sweat and felt very poorly.

I also have IBS which also sounds like what you're describing if I eat something that my stomach takes a disliking too. Normally have diarrhoea (watery and stabbing pains and churning) once or twice then feel okay again.

Hope you feel better soon xx
